Default icon size

Does anyone know the default icon size for desktop items, with a fresh install of 10.3?

After getting my new MacBook Pro, I noticed icons in folders seem to be 64 x 64 as opposed to the 48 x 48 they are on my old PowerBook (the same size they started at when I installed 10.5 on that machine).

On the first day or so, I didn't even see a Macintosh HD icon on the desktop, just the dock.
Then one appeared and if I recall correctly, if was 48 x 48.
I just booted the machine and it was up to 76 x 76. (Perhaps my wife used an expand motion on the trackpad while the desktop was in front.)

Anyway, I'm curious about the default icon size.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Barry

10.6.3? AFAIK 48x48. However, it's probably a function of display resolution and screen size. Macintosh HD won't show up unless you selected Finder->Preferences->General->Show HDs. That's a new SL default. Apparently, some folks got confused with them showing on the Desktop. Anyway, click on the Desktop, CMD+J, and set it as you desire for it. Then, create a new folder, open it, CMD+J, set it up as you want all never opened folders to appear, and click Use as Defaults.
