Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on the Seeing tab, turn off White on Black, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left.

You can also push the ControlOptionCommand keys and the number 8 key all at once.

There is something hardwired into all cats that makes that particular keystroke combination come naturally to them, even in their sleep. The number of posts seen in these forums featuring cats and white-on-black displays is simply unbelievable. Any given cat may not have a single other talent of any kind, but you can bet it will invoke that command the first time and every time it touches a Mac keyboard.

I wouldn't let my cat sleep on my keyboard, cat hairs (to name just one thing, if your cat is allowed out in the open who knows what they carry back into the house with them) sliding down in between the keyboard keys, potentially making contact with the logic board could make some interesting short circuits.

I had a friend (a long time ago now), who's cat urinated on her laptop's keyboard during the night. My friend switched it on in the morning and it frazzled. It was so funny when she told me I couldn't stop laughing.

    Cats and computers don't mix.

LOL... I wish it was that easy... that key combo I know by heart... it's when they try out new and innovative combos that I get stressed out. I think I've learned more key combinations trying to figure out how to undo whatever it is that they did.

I'm sure my cats do it just to annoy me anyway. They know they're not supposed to do it... which I can tell since they immediately get off when I see them. All except one which will walk on it... and then just sit there and look at me.

That worked! I thank you and so does Willow.
