I have a very odd problem. I just got my new 2010 13" MacBook Pro yesterday and the very first thing I did was clean install Windows 7 through bootcamp. After installing the bootcamp drivers, I noticed that if I do not boot Windows 7 with the Windows 7 installation disc in my drive, the system will freeze. I then have to force power down. The weird thing is, if I boot up Windows 7 with the disc inserted, it'll boot fine.
After hours of troubleshooting, it seems like the NVIDIA drivers is the problem.
Thank you. Here's my ntbootlog.txt file. It seems like vga.sys may be the problem? I think this makes sense a little since I experience the freeze issue when the NVIDIA drivers are installed. Also, running startup repair does not fix this issue. I've reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 numerous times already with the same result.
Apple posted an update late yesterday for some MacBook Pro models.
On the iMac Late 2009 the graphic card and drivers get messed up and confused and there you have to uninstall Apple's graphic driver from Programs and Device Manager I think, then let Windows install its own...
I think it got deleted when I was trying to troubleshoot this problem. I ran startup repairs and now the system recovery is back. I am still encountering the freeze problem though. Could you link me to Apple's update for the Macbook Pro models? Or is this done through the Apple Update in Windows?
I remember installing this last night. It doesn't seem to address my problem.
I have no idea if this is a software or hardware problem. It seems others have bootcamp Windows 7 installed fine. When I install Windows XP, it works fine no freezes without needing the installation disc loaded. But Windows 7, either Professional x64 or Home Premium x32, it freezes once those Nvidia drivers are installed and I do not have the installation disc inserted.
Briefly, I basically put the MacBook Pro to sleep by pressing the power button right at the "Welcome" screen, right before I expect the system to freeze/hangup. After doing this, I no longer need the Windows 7 installation DVD loaded into the cd drive to load Windows 7 successfully. Very weird solution, hopefully Apple/Nvidia addresses this problem soon.
