Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    @pratnala: That's so strange, because:

    - on my computer no such behavior (and I even restored clean system, without dev. tools, etc. - still works!)

    - nobody else reported about such problem yet

    - to the contrary, yesterday, even today I received some good feedback (so people use the software).

    I apologize, but I simply have no ideas.

    P.S. Am I alone not able to quickly open e.g. the page 68 of this topic? Now I have to many, many times click 'Next' arrow to advance just a few pages, that's so inconvenient. Or am I missing something? I don't see the link to the last page of the topic anymore.

    Ok I'll try uninstalling. Please also tell me the registry entries which have to be removed. Will do a fresh install of TP++.

    Regarding your PS, yes, a company which is so known for its wonderful design f**ked up the redesign of this forum by not having a go to last page button. I clicked the link from the mail to get to the last reply! HTH

    @pratnala: Just wanted to confirm, still no other people reported about such an issue, and there are thousands of downloads since the last update. There is some feedback that confirms the latest build of the Trackpad++ is being used successfully. The problem cannot be reproduced, so I cannot help. The registry entries are not related to date check, so there is no need to clean them.

    About the new design of the Apple Support communities, I have managed to find the link to the last post, it's on on the top, close to 'Go to original post'. Still, very frustrating redesign.

    Hey Vlad,

    Just to make clear that I have nothing against TP++. Can't live without it really. So, I uninstalled TP++ and hunted down the registry entries and removed them. Then, I installed again. Works fine now.

    And this redesign is stupid. I should be allowed to go to whichever page I want to. Not possible with this new design. It certainly looks good but doesn't function well. Typical of Apple products?

    Hi guys,

    I'm running W8 on Bootcamp (MBPRo 2012), and for the last two or three months I was not able to install the trackpad++ and powerplanassistant. It worked great for a while, and then with one of the updates, the installation just kept crashing in it's final stage. I've tried waiting for new updates and reinstalling, but no luck, same issue persists. Any clue what can cause this?

    Thanks

    Actually most ISP's are going to block your site:

    A. Because the site is hosted in the Ukraine, and .com's operating out of the Ukraine are notorious for being part of Russian Business Network schemes.

    B. Scumware is currently listing several executables on your site that are listed as "PUP".  While not technically malware, having an unsafe reputation (this is only recently, and most likely there were more unsafe applications hosted at another point) is going to give ISP's a good reason to block you.

    Actually being hosted out of that area is probably the primary reason, because there are a lot of American ISP's who block all traffic from that region.

    I would recommend moving the site to a UK or US based host, and make sure to check your web reputation on a regular basis to make sure you aren't being blocked for no reason.

    Aside from that, I love your driver, but hate that it gives me another job to do every few days to make sure the driver continues to function, especially since there's no way for me to access the donate thing to get an unlocked version anyway.  Ridiculous.  Offer it up free and give people the ability to donate if they WANT to, not just to remove an annoyance, that's bad coding practice.

    @ALL: I recommend to verify the installer with VirusTotal.com, you will see that the package is 100% clean, as reported by more than 50 antivirus and antimalware engines. As for the reputation scores, they are not the best measure - e.g. I update the files weekly, so there will never be enough users of the same (bit exact) executable to really gain the reputation thing, as calculated by some institutions. Website hosting location does not really matter, because the files are anyways hosted via FileCluster.com, with the mirrors both in the USA and EU.

    Yes, I agree, the thread is too old, and too outdated. Not only the first pages, but I would say pages 1 to 60 contain the discussions which are not relevant anymore. The software has evolved dramatically, and now has the simple automatic installation, fully configurable multitouch gestures, etc., etc. - all of the things it had obviously missed initially.

    So I feel it's time to close the topic. I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the discussion! For any questions, feedback, critics :), please feel free to contact me directly via support email.

    Cheers,

    Vladimir

    About the Hresult error 0x80070032 check task scheduler service and his dependances services too. If the task scheduler can't start or is stopped this error pop up before we can see the driver installation. The error does not necessary comes from the .net framework.

    @ALL: Just wanted to mention that a similar solution is finally out for Apple wireless Magic Trackpad. No, this new software isn't titled the Trackpad++ (and neither it's been created by me alone). I'm not promoting it there, so I provide no specific details, just search with Google, and you should find it. Also, I'm not resurrecting this closed thread. Closed is closed.
