Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Hey Vladimir, I tried using your driver, but it stopped working on me just like the apple driver does. It was working fine, and then all of a sudden the driver just stopped working.

    The Trackpad++ driver does not replace the Apple HID drivers stack completely. It instead is seamlessly integrated. So, if Apple's low-level HID driver stops working, Trackpad++ would not be able to work, too (despite the problem is in the Apple code, not in the Trackpad++).

    But strange, none of the users had reported such an issue before, and the Trackpad++ is there since 2010. What is the generation of your Macbook Pro? What is the installed Boot Camp version number?

    Hey all, is someone else still interested in adding the wireless (Magic) Trackpad support to Trackpad++, or, which is more probable to happen, in separate driver and control software for the Magic Trackpad? Are there at least 50 interested people on this planet? Of course, just like in the existing Trackpad++ driver, all the 3-finger and 4-finger gestures will be available... Maybe even 5-finger

    Those who are interested, please "vote" here.

    That really matters! It's extremely complex, to-be-done-from-the-scratch task... Because, Magic Trackpad hardware, would you believe it or not, is completely, 100% INcompatible with the existing Trackpad++ driver for Macbook Pro/Air built-in trackpad. So, only for the community

    I am interested in having the Magic Trackpad supported. Without 3+ finger touches, it is nearly useless on Windows. I would love to use one instead of my mouse as it has been causing me pain lately. Looking forward to hearing more news on this subject.

    Thanks!

    How do I find out what bootcamp version number im running? But I'm just running windows at the moment, I don't have the mac os installed on my computer because my hard drive kept getting corrupted when I ran both. I am using the bootcamp drivers though so I don't want to cause confusion there.

    To DFILL: you may click the Boot Camp icon (rhombus) in the notification area of the Windows taskbar and among the options there is the one to see the version info. Also, could you tell what is the generation of your Macbook Pro?

    To Magic Trackpad users: great, 2 people on this planet are interested already. Just 48 more, please.

    Boot Camp 3.3 and 4.0 are the recent versions. 100% supported. The thing you are experiencing is caused by the same legacy Apple driver, this is not the Trackpad++ issue.

    I plan to order the Magic Trackpad, and right now I'm 100% satisfied with 3/4 swipe and window switcher features of the Trackpad++ in my Boot Camp. I will never return to Apple drivers again. So I put my vote for the Trackpad++ for Magic Trackpad!

    As a past donator toward both projects of Vlad (Power Plan Assistant and Trackpad++), I for one definitely vouch for the implementation of the Magic Trackpad in the current Trackpad++ driver. :-)

    I actually work with Macbook owners all day, and most of them tell me that the only reason that they are holding back on the purchase of a Magic Trackpad for their Windows desktops is the current lack of complete multi-touch gestures on the device, hence they are instead looking into the recently released Logitech trackpad for Windows 7. I have tried the Logitech and I think it is a complete piece of junk. Let's be honest; Apple's sleek hardware design is backed by more patents than any Windows accessory manufacturer is willing to violate, so we will never have a quality trackpad for Windows 7 (and the upcoming 8 release) without Vladamir's huge contributions to this community and his unique motive to use "Apple hardware on Windows software," great passion, and marvelous programming skills. I can guarantee that if this driver comes to surface, I, along with each of my aforementioned co-workers, will make a donation to the great Vladamir to commend him on his hard and honourable work!

    So, that's +18 for this idea if you would like to count all of us! I'm sure even more people are on these forums that have not come across your post or even this thread yet, and even many of those who have posted already in this thread may not be subcribed to it, so they may not see your latest replies to the thread. As such, I am sure you have way more supporters than what you have already seen, Vlad!

    Good luck to you on all of your future endeavours! Let me know if there is any way I can help. :-)

    Is there any way to get this working on the non-pro (white macbooks). I have a 2010 white model with a multitouch trackpad and I was wondering if there is any difference between the pro/non pro trackpads.

    Hello, thanks for all the hard work on this.

    I am wondering if there is any way to get two-finger secondary click working with Trackpad++?

    I am not interested in turning on tap-to-click as I personally hate that mode.  Even a workaround would be alright but this is something I need.

    Thanks!

    To mwdelta: right now two types of right-click are available in Trackpad++: either physically click the bottom right corner of trackpad, or do two-finger tap anywhere (but, yes, only if tap-to-click checkbox is activated). Two-finger secondary click is not available in the current version.

    To Broskies: non-Pro Macbook is NOT supported, no way to get it working, unfortunately.

    To rezaparnian & FrederiQ: thank you very much
