Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    OK -

    I'm stuck and pretty ticked off.

    I paid up for Trackpad++ quite a while back and have been using ever since. It's worth it, and I'm perfectly happy to pay. But I /don't/ really want Power Plan Assistant.

    ONLY: on my MBA running Win7 64bit, I HAVE to install it first.

    AND: After having to do a complete reinstall of Windows 7, I am now completely incapale of installing TP++ becuase I can't get the stupid PPA program to install. That is, I downloaded the latest version I could find and tried to do a clean install of PPA for Win7, but I keep on getting the same message: "This is an outdated version ... " etc.

    The message say to get the latest version at www.powerplan7.com, but I can't find a download there. I found a v.2.5e on Techspot, but I don't see where I get anything newer.

    Look, if I have to pay $15 for Trackpad++, that's fine. It's worth it. Really. I'd pay $20 for it. It makes a very expensive laptop usable under Win7. But I'm ticked off about getting nickled and dimed for some other program I don't really want, so's I can run the one I DO want ...

    Anyway, just tell me where to send th dough and I'll pay for PPA too. But this whole experience is just unnecessarily WEIRD.

    Peace,

    Mike

    The how-to-donate instructions for Power Plan Assistant: http://powerplan7.com/donate.htm

    I do apologize, there is a temporary issue with all the files uploaded to TechSpot.com, which is the currently the official mirror of powerplan7.com.

    This problem ("outdated" message) happens both to Power Plan and Trackpad++. And this problem can't be solved immediately.

    Everyone interested in getting the fresh build, please either contact me directly via email, or please be so kind to wait until tomorrow (or Monday as a maximum).

    I'm really sorry for any inconvenience... I do realize, there IS an inconvenience. Weird, I fully agree.

    Cool, man.

    If there's some kind of background problem causing this, I can at least understand what's going on. Email sent.

    Good to know:

    if you update from BC 3.x to BC4 you need to reinstall the Trackpad++ driver.

    Otherwise it won't work but will drain your battery instead ... (I had the Trackpad process running with 50% CPU power)

    Does Trackpad++ still support MBP early 2008? This model is not listed in the http://trackpad.powerplan7.com/, but listed in the 1st post of this thread which is very old.

    Just want to confirm it. Thanks!

    Hi Vladimir,

    I love your work BUT since the PPA expired and I installed 2.5e it installs, the system tray icon appears, but as soon as I touch it with the cursor it disappears, and is not working or even a running process.

    This was working perfectly in previous versions along with trackpad++ but due to your set up of having to install two apps, my trackpad++ of course wont work.

    system is w7 on 2011 MBP. Nothing changed since previous versions of PPA

    I'm totally happy paying a few dollars if it works, but what is the solution?

    thanks

    Oh Lord... You're right! There's a defect in the latest build, and it can be reproduced everywhere (just not on the developer's box). Working on a fix. I will post here when a new build is available. This could take time. Thanks for your patience...

    Thank you Vladimir, everything works now.

    I'm using this driver for the first time, and till now i works very good.

    But there is one thing that doesn't work as nice as it does on OSX, the scrolling.

    I wish it will be as smooth as with osx.

    Still great software. I actually bought a magic trackpad afterwards - hope you are making progress on it's driver!

    One question though regarding the PowerPlanPlus software: you have preset the top left corner for linking actions. Is there a way I can change to let's say top right corner? My second screen is placed left hand and altough I love the feature I have a black screen quite often ...

    Thanks again!!
