Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Hi,

    I've installed Windows 8 CP and have been having trouble getting the Boot Camp trackpad drivers working (created on Snow Leopard). I have however gone into the drivers folder and installed all the individual drivers, including the ones for the track pad. I guess this is where my problem with Trackpad++ lays!

    After the "IF AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE REQUIREMENTS IS NOT MET" dialogue nothing happens and "Trackpad++ has stopped responding" flashes up for a brief moment.

    I wasn't able to complete a full install through the main Boot Camp driver installer but all the individual drivers have been installed manually.

    Will it be possible to get Trackpad++ working? Failing that, does anyone know how to get the trackpad working in Windows 8 CP with Boot Camp 3.x drivers?

    Cheers!

    @Nemo44: Thank you for a good suggestion. I do not deny the customizable hot corner will be added in one of the future releases.

    @Polyphon: Trackpad++ does NOT support Windows 8. DEAR ALL, DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL IT ON WINDOWS 8!!! BECAUSE IT'S BEEN MADE FOR WINDOWS 7 ONLY!!!

    Hey all... has anyone got a new mid-2012 Macbook already? We need a few volunteers with the new Macs... To add these models, of course

    Hi Vladimir,

    I received since yesterday an error message saying "Windows requires a digitally signed driver"

    Nothing changed in my configuration. I have a paid version of TrackPad++ and it has been installed and working for the past few months.

    I tried to uninstall and reinstall but it is still doing the error.

    Regards,

    Hi Alex,

    Strange! This is actually a keyboard backlight driver from the Power Plan Assistant, the service which allows PPA  to control the backlight level without any conficts with Boot Camp-native mechanism. Anyways, the fix would be:

    http://www.powerplan7.com/Windows 7 x64 SP1 Unsigned Drivers Fix.zip

    (Paste ENTIRE line into the browser to be able to download, not just what appears to be the link).

    Usage: unzip, copy BOTH OF THE FILES (the fix executable and its manifest) to C:\Program Files\PowerPlanAssistant, then run the fix from PPA folder (C:\Program Files\PowerPlanAssistant) and reboot.

    Hi,

    I've noticed one more bug: If there are several users in the system, it works only for one.

    When I do logout and login as another user, it crashes

    Old bugs, that are not  fixed yet are:

    1. No direction inverse for horizontal scrolling. After Lion, it is too hard in windows to use "natural" scrolling for vertical direction and "classic" for horizontal. Quite annoying, especially in graphics editors.

    2. It doesn't remember setting ("Gestures"checkbox) when I want to turn off ALL gesture recognizers.

    Hi Vladmir

    I've got the new MBP Retina and would love to volunteer! I have become so used to Trackpad++ on my earlier MBP and can't wait for Trackpad++ to release for this one!

    Dear All,

    I have got the great news. The Trackpad++ has been ported to Retina MBP. To be more precise, now it supports all of the new Macbooks Pro and Air from Mid-2012!

    !!! PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO INSTALL POWER PLAN ASSISTANT FIRST!!!

    http://techspot.com/downloads/4883-power-plan-assistant-for-windows-7.html

    Then you can install the test version of the new Trackpad++ from here:

    http://trackpad.powerplan7.com/Trackpad_Plus_Plus_Driver_Control_Module_23a_Test _Setup_06262012.exe

    This version is stable, however, I would call it BETA, not the release. Please use at your own risk.

    Just any feedback is highly apreciated. Especially, do the 3-finger and 4-finger gestures work reliably for you?

    P.S. Windows 7 x86/x64 only, please. Do not not attempt to install it if you have Windows 8.

    The link above is not valid anymore, but feel free to download the Trackpad++ normally from an official web site. All the new Mid-2012 Macbooks are supported now! As always, please make sure to install the full Boot Camp package first! Then Power Plan Assistant, and only then Trackpad++.

    Hi Vlad,

    Love trackpad++ but I havent used it in a while ever since I had reinstall my Windows 7 64 bit partition on my late 2011 MBP a few months back because first the drivers broke and then my parition broke. I realize now that it was due to 1)proably a bad parition and 2) becuase I was using parallels 7 to VM into the partition as well

    My question is, will using parallels and trackpad++ break my partition again? If so, how can I remove the parallels drivers from my partition so PPA and TP will work (I would rather have a better mouse then a VM)? And are there any plans to make TP work with parallels?

    thanks!

    I have a brand new MacBook Pro and would love to try this.  In fact, I did try this!  The problem though is the bootcamp is horrendously screwed up and will not run on my MacBook running Windwos 7/x64.  So I have manually installed drivers but bootcamp proper would not install.  This package appears to require that bootcamp be in place..so no joy.

    Hi All,

    @llamapower: unfortunately, no way to support Trackpad++ in VM like Parallels. But you can still use those virtual machines by creating the virtual partition from within Parallels or VMware Fusion and installing Windows 7 there. Of course, do not use the option to "use Boot Camp partition to boot VM" in this case.

    @GrovrM: no joy, but the full Boot Camp 3.x/4.x package shall be installed before Trackpad++. Boot Camp drivers first, then Power Plan Assistant, then Trackpad++.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the responce Vlad!

    So if I already shared my bootcamp partition with parallels 7, how do I get rid of its influence and changes ont he partition? Is uninstalling software in OS X and then changing the drivers back to their original bootcamp 4.0 drivers enough? Are there further steps I can take so that when I install tackpad++ my partition wont break?

    Thanks!

    Yes, I think this should be enough. And by the way the partition won't break in any case.
