Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Hi Vladimir

    Am I mistaken or is there no 2 finger right click support? I only ever use 2 finger right click, not bottom corner. When I install trackpad it automatically disables 2 finger right click and relys on bottom corner right click.

    Please fix 2 finger right click!! It's half broken on the bootcamp drivers as it is

    Thanks

    @w.turner88: a complete feature list of the Trackpad++ has not been posted for a while. So, I think I will give you more detailed answer about the currently available features, including the right-click thing, of course. Here it comes (for Trackpad++ v2.3a):

    - Revised pointer ballistics (i.e. how a pointer speed depends on a finger speed; six optimal presets built-in);

    - Left-lick: either with a press or single-finger tap;

    - Right-click: either with two-finger tap or right-bottom corner press;

    - Accelerated vertical and horizontal scrolling with two fingers (speed and direction customizable);

    - Dragging with two fingers (works perfectly: press with one finger and then freely move second finger or both fingers);

    - Dragging with a single finger ("tap-style") - NOTICE - this method, unlike the previous one does not work perfectly yet (it's quality is 100% identical to Boot Camp-native behavior, because, well, it's directly inherited from the Boot Camp driver);

    - Optional dragging helper: "2x pointer speed while dragging" - not seen even in OS X, the option to increase the pointer speed while dragging; works nice with two-finger dragging!

    - Three-finger tap emulates middle mouse button (e.g. you may use it to open browser tabs in background with a single tap or for navigation);

    - Three-finger swiping (horizontal: back/forward, vertical: discrete zoom in/out);

    - Four-finger swiping (vertical: hide/preview all the windows, horizontal: alt-tab alternative);

    - A vital option to ignore accidental input when typing.

    Thank you for this, very helpful

    I'm up and running now and all is well

    Would you be able to add the ability to disable bottom corner right click but keep 2 finger right click in the future?

    Thanks

    Using Trackpad++ for a week now. Friends, I tell you, don't even try to boot Windows on Macbook Pro without installing both tools, the Trackpad++ and Power Plan. Both are really, very good tools! But Vladimir, I have one small (or probably huge) feature request: 3-finger dragging. Just implement this thing and I'm not going even boot into OS X again . And friends, I'm already lovin 3-finger tap, what it does is opens the web tabs in background. I tell you, this feature alone deserves some $20K award . Thanks so much!!

    Windows 8 is going RTM next week, when do you plan to release working Trackpad++ version supporting win 8?

    @ap3rus: A new version of the Trackpad++, the version which supports Windows 8 will very hopefully become available this autumn.

    @easylivin8: Thank you very much! Regarding the feature request you posted: please realize that 3-finger dragging disables the 3-finger swiping, right? Therefore, by introducing this very nice feature, we will have to remove another very nice feature...

    Just installed it on my new MBP and it keeps telling me it "Cannot communicate with the Trackpad ++ driver!"  Some, but not all of the features are working.  How do I resolve this please?

    Hi, I suggest to reinstall the Trackpad++. To do so, exit the Trackpad++ Control Module from the Windows tray (right-click the '++' icon and choose 'Exit') and then launch the installer again. Also, is the Power Plan Assistant capable of disabling the keyboard backlight? If yes, then there are no reasons for the Trackpad++ not to function... If no, then please try to reinstall the Power Plan Assistant first.

    The Power Plan Assistant is not capable of disabling the keyboard backlight.  In fact, the lights aren't on at all.  When I click on disable, nothing happens.  I'll try reinstalling PPA and see what happens.

    Lights not on? This is not the expected behavior of the Boot Camp! I suspect you do not have the full and official Boot Camp 3.x/4.x drivers package installed. Please note that neither PPA, nor Trackpad++ are designed to work without the Boot Camp ecosystem installed first...

    I definitely have BCA 4.0 on there.

    Problem is fixed!  I uninstalled both and did a restart after each, then reinstalled both and did the same.  All is working well on both fronts.  Not sure what happened.  Definitely looking forward to the next release with more gestures.  Thanks Vladimir.
