Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Hiya Vladimir!

    I^ve been havign some trouble recently: I'm not sure what gesture it is, but Trackpad++ keeps thinking I'm carrying out a gesture that apprently means "minimize the currenty window." It's very annoying, since I Then have to go hunt for the window to get it back into focus. It happens in all programs.

    Any idea what's going on?? I have all 4 finger gstures turned off, btw.

    Hi Vladimir,

    I just installed Trackpad++ 2.3b-x64 on my new 15" Macbook Pro running Windows 7 on Boot Camp 4.0.  Most of it works exceptionally well and is a welcome extension to the paltry functionality allowed with standard Boot Camp.  However, I seem to have a strange problem:  horizontal swiping with either 3 or 4 fingers doesn't work.  Vertical swiping works fine.  I've checked that the horizontal swiping gestures are turned on, I've tried rebooting, etc.  Powerplan assistant seems to be working fine - I can turn off the keyboard backlight, etc.

    Have you ever run into this issue before?  Do you have any idea what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks.

    Is there any chance you could make it keep scrolling if you lift your fingers in the middle of a 2-finger swipe without stopping first? Maybe it's called "inertia scrolling" or something.

    Like a checkbox option to enable/disable it. Or more advanced, give the user some control of the "traction" (how fast it will decelerate).

    Dear All,

    A totally new beta build, the "Trackpad++ Next", is ready. Windows 8 users, please try it (as always, at your own risk - it's BETA). Windows 7 users - do not install this build. Windows 7 part hasn't been altered.

    The advanced multitouch gestures in this build:

    1.)   Horizontal 2-finger swiping to the left from outside the right edge (action: show/hide Charms Bar).

    2.)   Horizontal 2-finger swiping to the right from outside the left edge (action: show/hide Metro Switcher if at least one Metro app is running).

    3.)   Horizontal 3-finger swiping (action: back / forward);

    4.)   Vertical 3-finger swiping (action: zoom in / zoom out);

    5.)   3-finger tap (action: middle mouse button);

    6.)   Horizontal 4-finger swiping (action: show/hide Charms Bar).

    7.)   Vertical 4-finger swiping (action: show/hide desktop).

    8.)   4-finger tap (action: switch between the full-screen Metro apps, at least one Metro app shall be running).

    Note that the first two gestures are implemented just similarly to how the notification bar is called in Mountain Lion (i.e. 2-finger 'outside' swipe, see http://powerplan7.com/OutsideSwipe.gif)

    The gestures number 6 and 8 are also very Windows 8-specific, check them out.

    Download link:  http://powerplan7.com/Trackpad_Plus_Plus_Driver_Control_Module_23c_BETA_Setup_10 032012.exe

    As always, just any feedback is highly appreciated.

    I saw a lot of discussion on this earlier in the thread, but it seemed to fizzle.  Let me just rekindle this now: 3-finger drag would be really, really lovely.  I'd happily trade the back/forward gesture for the drag feature.  Is it possible?

    @The Alcazar: It's very, very problematic at this moment, yet I still hope this will become an option in the future. Just one thing, I believe most people love the back/forward gesture. And will miss it...

    Several issues fixed, file re-uploaded, the link is the same (see my post two messages above).

    HEY ALL, GET THE NEW BUILD IF YOU'RE ON WINDOWS 8! IT SHALL BE MUCH BETTER THAN YESTERDAY!

    Hey Vladimir,

    Using build 2.3b and two-finger scrolling doesn't work in many Metro apps Tweetro for example. I will install 2.3c and see if it is fixed

    Feature request: 2 finger swipe from bottom and top for the app bar? Is it possible?

    Two finger scrolling still doesn't work in 3rd party apps. I'm using build 2.3c

    I know. In some. Not in all, even 3rd-party. And I even know why . A fix requires the complex code changes and will be provided in a week or two. Keep an eye on the updates.

    Just to emphasize: classic Windows 8 desktop is NOT affected, and most of the stock Metro apps are not affected, either.

    Can you give more feedback about the new edge gestures from the beta build I posted above. The left and right gestures work absolutely reliable for you?

    Bottom and top for the app bar? Sounds good!

    Regarding edge gestures, when i swipe back onto the edge, I want the charms and recent apps bar to disappear. Is it possible? Right now, to make the charms bar disappear, I have to click on empty space OR swipe into the trackpad area again as if I'm pulling the charms bar again. I feel it is not intuitive. Instead, they should disappear when I swipe back onto the edge. I hope you get what I meant. I sounded confusing probably.

    And, they are reasonably reliable considering it is a beta build. They pop out most of the time.

    no feedback on w8 ...

    rather on pp7 / win7: are you able to make the active corners more flexible? specifically I like to use the turn-of-display corner but I have the start button at the same corner ...

    this might be a bigger task, but the way on how you set and save the settings in pp7 is not very userfriendly. Why not a simple window as with trackpad++?

    "I believe most people love the back/forward gesture. And will miss it..."

    So just let the user choose what it does. There are too many hard-coded things chosen by the developer with too little user control, just like with Apple in general =).

    Right now I'm not using any of the 4-finger swipes because I have no use for them, and they are especially difficult to get into AutoHotkey to change what they do.

    Here is the release candidate of the 'Trackpad++ Next' for Windows 8. The scrolling now works in all Metro applications. Left and right edge 2-finger swipe gestures are even more reliable.

    http://www.powerplan7.com/Trackpad_Plus_Plus_Driver_Control_Module_23c_RC1_Setup _10092012.exe

    The only negative thing is, I had to remove the fullscreen apps switching with 4-finger tap (now it is configured so that it shows/hides Start screen). Why removed? Because it does not work relialble for all of the people. Not the gesture part, but the Windows part. I have to find a different way to switch between the full-screen apps programmatically... When found, the switching will be back. And yes, you still can use the left 'outside-edge' 2-finger swipe to show the Metro Switcher (if at least one Metro app is running).

    Thanks for the update Vlad.

    I like the four finger start bar function and can confirm that two finger scrolling works in all metro apps so far. Good job.

    Some issues:

    Two finger horizontal swiping from outer edge of the trackpad doesn't do anything: No metro switcher or charm bar.

    The four finger horizontal swipe brings in the charm bar everytime without fail and does so very intuitively. So not sure what's up with the two finger gesutres.

    Wish list:

    Easy tab switching with the trackpad. In an earlier post, I mentioned Jitouch for OSX. One finger in the centre of the trackpad, and tap to the left or right of that finger to select previous or next tab. Works so **** well.

    Thanks again and keep up the good work. Trackpad++ on windows 8 is really beginning to rival OSX.

    Three finger zoom is not working in Metro in this RC version. It worked in the beta build! Please look into it

    And also, how to remove that pesky Test Mode watermark on the desktop? PowerPlan 3.0b said it will remove but it hasn't removed yet....

    Please help
