Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    There's your problem ... the bcdedit fix disables the driver.

    Here's the bad news. Once you uninstall the driver, reinstallation fails. Also, Vladimir hasn't given us a way to rollback the driver from trackpad++ to the original driver. In other words, there is no real way to completely uninstall the software and drivers to get back to where you started.

    What I had to do when I experienced this problem was to uninstall Power Plan Assistant and Trackpad++, clean out the registry of all traces of those programs, uninstall ALL mouse drivers, restart Windows 7 to let it redetect devices, and then run the bootcamp driver DVD again. Then I was able to reinstall Power Plan Assistant and Trackpad++.

    thanks for your help.

    one question - if I start again and am able to install the driver again successfully, will I have the "test mode" message in the lower right corner of my screen since I have SP 1 installed now. That is the reason I did the bcdedit fix.

    I think I'd rather use the bootcamp drivers that have that message on my desktop constantly. Pity it can't be removed without affecting the Trackpad++ driver.

    Yes, unfortunately, you will see the test mode message again.

    I have relied on the weekly update of Trackpad ++ Control Module, but no update for 2 weeks. The tool is nice, but without an active Trackpad ++ I am stucked with the tap features, and it makes me crazy. I want to disable the tap feature, but cannot do it in the basic Windows 7 driver and with no new Trackpad Control module I am trapped. Any hints? This tap is a real pain, probably because my fingers are to bulky and keep touching the pad

    I'm trying to go back to just using the trackpad with the Boot Camp drivers. I uninstalled Trackpad++ and Power Plan, and now all multi-touch gestures are not working. I tried rolling back all the drivers, removing the drivers, reinstalling the drivers... but nothing is working.
    Help!

    Well, you don't get any multi-touch gestures in Windows 7 except for scrolling.

    Go to device manager and expand "mice and other pointing devices". Next, delete (uninstall) all of the HID complaint interfaces. Next, go to the action tab and scan for hardware changes. The drivers will come back. Next, run the bootcamp driver DVD and select repair. I've done this several times.

    After the driver-uninstalling and BootCamp-repairing, I was able to do two-finger scrolling, but the other essential multi-touch gesture, right-clicking, wasn't working.

    I ended up just removing the Windows partition and re-installing via Boot Camp. Not a big deal, since I hadn't done much in Windows on the Air (nor much of anything else, having just gotten the Air last week!). When I reinstalled, I did not update Boot Camp, and the trackpad seems to be working fine so far with two-finger scrolling & clicking. But I won't attempt to install Trackpad++ again. Whatever extras are provided just isn't worth the uninstall hassles.

    Hello Everybody,

    Here is a watermark-free, "one-click" re-enabler of the Trackpad++ driver, targeted to fix the Windows 7 x64 SP1 issue:

    http://www.powerplan7.com/Windows 7 x64 SP1 Unsigned Drivers Fix.zip

    Usage: unzip, copy BOTH OF THE FILES (the fix executable and its manifest) to C:\Program Files\PowerPlanAssistant, then run the fix from PPA folder (C:\Program Files\PowerPlanAssistant). After restart, unsigned drivers will be allowed again. No watermark, no issues. Everything as it was before SP1.

    Trackpad++ installation simply cannot lead to such behavior.
    With or without Trackpad++, with or without Boot Camp the pointer will work, as it does right after Windows 7 installation and in fact even during its installation! What is the version of the "Apple Multitouch" HID? Could you please refer to Device Manager to get the version. Also, please make sure that in the device manager there are no devices with yellow exclamation mark.

    IMPORTANT:
    Please note, the people who install Trackpad++ FOR THE FIRST TIME on Windows 7 x64 SP1 do not require the fix at all It is required only for the people who had Trackpad++ installed already (i.e. when Trackpad++ was installed prior to SP1)!

    V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r, what hinders to adapt the driver for the Magic Trackpad earlier - for example by April, 1st?

    Hi everyone,

    I just installed Trackpad++ from the Admin account and it seemed to work okay. Now when I login with the "standard" user account, I get an error when logging in and trackpad++ assistant module seems simply not available...

    Do I miss something obvious...

    Thanks,
