Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Just to make sure all of the new users realize a new version of the Trackpad++ is available for more than a month already, let me re-publish the changelog for the new Trackpad++ version 2.4a vs. 'classic' 2.3d

    - 3-FINGER DRAGGING ADDED, as well as the new (related) configuration options;

    - Back/forward gestures and middle-click emulation moved to 4-finger space;

    - [Windows 8 only] Edge-gestures reliability raised, it shall be literally 99.999% now;

    - Improved behavior when you choose to disable scrolling acceleration;

    - Other (minor) bug fixes.

    Removed:

    - 1-finger dragging (but classic 'click + 2 fingers' dragging remains and works perfectly);

    - 3-finger zoom (but hold on, there exist at least 3 workarounds for zooming!)

    @ALL:

    Dear All... It's not my usual style to write such things, but... if you would like the Trackpad++ project to be actively developed further, then, please, consider donating! This is very important, as this could allow me to spend maximum time on this project. Thank You very much.

    Cheers,

    Vladimir

    Your Dev.

    I have both your power plan assistant and trackpad++ installed on my boot camp partition and I started getting notification about a new version the other day and can no longer use either program. When I try to go to your site to download the new version it is not able to load your site. Can you direct me to the newest version and how I might be able to donate to you for a personal key?

    @jschick04: Could you please try to open it again. Maybe try from a different computer, because the Trackpad++ and Power Plan Assistant website is 100% working now. If you still fail to download the new builds, I can email you the files. If you manage to open the website, you'll see the super-simple instruction for donating via PayPal. Thank you!

    @FredeiQ: Thank you very much! If all of the Trackpad++ users were like you...

    Vladimir,

    I've been trying for weeks, when the driver said it was out of date, to get to the website and I can't from multiple machines nor from my iPhone even, while on LTE. Something is broken.

    I was able to get a friend to get me links for the software. However I had some other people try and while 1 person could get to the website, others couldn't.

    @noahphex: Correct, this is the 'official' mirror, feel free to download the files from it directly.

    @ALL: The problem with the website unavailability needs further investigation. So I ask all of the people who cannot open the website of the project (powerplan7.com) to please leave the message here. Please also indicate your country, and possibly provider. And have you been able to open the site in the past. Because the website statistics shows it is up and running, so whatever blocking is happening, it is on the provider side!

    @jschick04: Thank you for reporting. The investigation continues. For those who cannot open, the workaround remains the same - just use the FileCluster links above on this page to download both the Power Plan Assistant (mandatory prerequisite for 64-bit Windows 7 / 8!) and the latest Trackpad++ driver software.

    Does anyone else get a .net framework error after installing Power Plan Assistant?

    "The request is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070032)"

    @Socky42: So strange! Please let me explain why 'so strange'. The Power Plan Assistant utility has the rock stable product reputation. It got downloaded 246,000 only from the old mirror (TechSpot) and got already 15,000 more downloads since switched to FileCluster.com, but no user had ever reported anything like this. Even worse, I have never seen such the issue, either, so I have no ideas on how to resolve this. I'm extremely sorry. Maybe, if possible, try to refresh the Windows 8 installation on your Macbook.

    A .net framework error may indicate that the Microsoft .NET Framework  may not be installed and/or corrupt.

    Have you run Windows Update from Control Panel to see if you have all the latest updates installed?

    Have you dowloaded PPA again?

    Your PPA Download may be corrupt so download again and try to install as an administrator using the newest download.

    Microsoft .NET Framework is downloadable in stand alone installations from Microsoft.

    Let us know how your results.

    @V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r: Hey Vladimir! Just wanted to ask what's the zoom gesture status? I was very happy with 3-finger zoom in Traclpad++ 2.3d, so just wondering if you plan to resurrect the zoom gesture somehow so that it coexists with 3-finger drag. Thanks already!!!

    @Frederiq: Regarding the Trackpad++ zoom gesture, at this moment there exist 2 workarounds (valid both for Windows 7 and 8):

    a) You can hold Ctrl and move 2 fingers up/down (cons: requires 2 hands);

    b) You can install old set of gestures (2.3d), this option is now given during the setup (cons: no 3-finger dragging when using the old gesture set) and you will be able to use the vertical 3-finger swipe for zoom control.

    For your information: Pinch-to-zoom, i.e. 2-finger zoom is something I work on now, but no luck yet. Basically, when 2 fingers are put on the trackpad, there is a problem reading the coordinate of the second finger, it always returns zero, so currently no way to reliably distinguish between 2-finger scrolling and 2-finger pinch. Therefore, I cannot yet add the pinch-to-zoom gesture. You would not like it in its current state
