Q: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT

I've got a good news for Macbook Pro / Air owners: a new multitouch trackpad driver for Windows 7 is out.

This driver (codenamed 'Trackpad++') neither contains, nor modifies the original Apple code.
However, it relies on Apple drivers stack for raw hardware access, that's why Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first.

Features of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 3.1 driver):

1. Improved pointer ballistics (pointer movement can be very slow or very fast, depending on the finger speed);

2. Dramatically improved two-finger scrolling experience: Mac OS X-similar (accelerated) scrolling model implemented;

3. Elimination of the most annoying Windows issue of Apple Multitouch Trackpad, i.e. false detection of drag'n'drop actions;

4. Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the Trackpad settings.

Supported Macbook Pro generations: Early 2008, Late 2008, Early 2009, Mid 2009;
Supported Macbook Air generations: all generations;
Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit (Boot Camp 3.1 shall be installed first).

You may visit http://trackpad.powerplan7.com for details.

Just by the way: there was an extensive beta-testing phase, and a lot of volunteers have tried Trackpad++ already, so I can assure You that the driver is rock-stable.

P.S. I wrote this driver. My another project is Power Plan Assistant - a popular utility for Boot Camp-enabled Macbook Pro and Air notebooks.

Cheers, and enjoy Trackpad++, something Apple definitely have had to implement a while ago... but I know and You know - it never would...

    Hi! When I'm installing Power Plan Assistant, it gets to the "Install Search Protect" screen and 3/4 of the window is blacked out so I can't see what text is associated with the bubbles. What is the text or what is that window supposed to look like? I'd like to be able to use Trackpad++ on 8.1, but I'm leery to hit next without knowing what I'm agreeing to...

    @nybbles: Thank you for the feedback. I am very happy to know you are really enjoying the Trackpad++.

    @mtn369: Shall not be so. Maybe it is some combination of the resolution / DPI scaling on your machine. Please see how this looks on my computer: http://powerplan7.com/3147.png (Actually, there is a small set of the recommendations, picked randomly, but all are approved to be clean and even helpful). So, just in case, please choose the second (bottom) option to not agree and proceed with Power Plan Assistant installation. Then install Trackpad++ and join the community of the happy Boot Camp users

    Cheers,

    Vladimir

    Vladimir,

    I just installed Boot Camp 5 on Win 7 64, and Trackpad++ is no longer working correctly. The three and four finger gestures don't do anything, and it's consuming 25% of my CPU, which it never did before.

    Any ideas? Are you supporting Bootcamp 5? I hope so – I've been a registered user for over a year, and Trackpad++ has been AWESOME! I can't stand the thought of going back to using the Boot Camp drivers

    Thanks,

    Shawn

    I think you need to reinstall trackpad after the 5.1 upgrade

    Disregard my last. I uninstalled Trackpad++ and Power Plan Assistant, downloaded the latest versions of both, and reinstalled. Everything seems to be working again, and with some nice enhancements!

    Going to make another donation now. Please keep up the good work!

    Thanks,

    @ALL:

    Just for the general information of the community: Boot Camp 5.1 update has become available now. I have verified that Trackpad++ works just as fine as it did with Boot Camp 5.0 environment. Also, I can tell that nothing has changed to the best in the Apple native trackpad driver. The same basic features, the same (if not worse) defects.

    A note for existing Trackpad++ users: if you are upgrading the Boot Camp drivers, please reinstall the Trackpad++ after Boot Camp is updated. Important - to ensure proper reinstallation, please always quit Trackpad++ Control Module from its tray icon first (right-click its '++' icon and choose to exit).

    Also, I recommend you uninstall TP++ BEFORE you update boot camp to 5.1.

    Then reinstall after rebooting. I had a tough time getting back in (had to manually force safe mode by forcing a crash during boot at windows logo)....

    Figured out that uninstalling TP++ let me back in without loosing my graphics driver.

    For me an upgrade to Bootcamp 5.1 went very smooth. Just had to reinstall Trackpad++ afterwards in order to get the gestures working. Thanks again Vlad!!!

    Are there any noticeable improvements with bootcamp 5.1 vs 5.0?

    @timelover: According to my observations, nothing has changed. But I was concentrated  mainly on the Boot Camp native trackpad driver and the battery life.

    Windows 8.1 Boot Camping is now officially supported by Apple. Trackpad++ driver works very well with Windows 8.1, and the Retina displays are properly supported in Windows 8.1 (no blurry scaling at 200%, but finally pixel doubling!), which should be the argument for rMBP owners to consider migrating to Windows 8.1.

    Alright then!

    Hey, just a little question here, not about the trackpad but regarding powerplan, even though this topic is specifically for trackpad:

    Are you planning on updating powerplan? I've noticed the keyboard backlight bug is still there on v3.1c. I always set the keyboard light to 0, then I set "never change backlight automatically". However, as soon as I restart the mac the light appears back again.

    Cheers!

    @timelover: Please let me clarify about this option of Power Plan Assistant (I mean, how it should work if there are no bugs - and by the way it's known to work very well according to both short-term and long-term user feedback). If you want the keyboard backlight level to be set to zero after boot and on exit from sleep, and have it controlled anly manually via relevant top row keys, then the '...automatic backlight...' checkbox in the 'right-click' menu of PPA shall be checked. If you want to involve Boot Camp-native automatic backlight adjustment, then you can disable (uncheck) this option. But automatic thing is not perfect, it's defined by Boot Camp drivers, not by Power Plan Assistant. For this or other suggestion / report / whatever regarding PPA, please consider contacting me via email, so that this topic remains specific to Trackpad++ driver.

    Cheers,

    Vladimir

    Hi Vladimir,

    I understand that the files are trusted by many and 100% CLEAN. I am trying to install this for the first time and the file keeps getting flagged and autodeleted by chrome. When i tried through internet explorer, when the files got downloaded my norton 360 flagged and deleted them. I am just wondering if this is normal as I read your faq and installation instructions and to my knowledge you do not mention that the antivirus needs to be deactivated before installation. I tried files from the singapore server and the external mirror at filecluster and both have the same result. Any advice would be appreciated. Looking forward to installing this for the first time!

    Thank you for everything that you do!

    @turkz1: Nobody should use Norton. Or even McAfee. These are the worst anti-viruses ever. Get MSE (it's free and pretty awesome too) or use Kaspersky/BitDefender. Norton and McAfee are notorious for their false positives
