Q: Fibre Switch  for Xsan

We have an Xserve and an Xserve raid. We do not own a fibre switch. The xserve has a fibre card with two connections on it. The copper fibre goes out of the xserve and right into the raid. We own a copy of Xsan but are not presently running it. Here are my two questions. If we run Xsan, will I get better performance out of my connection to the raid as it will it be faster? And if I turn my raid into a san, do I have to have a fibre switch or can I hook the Xserver copper fibre right into the raid like I have it now> Sorry for the newbie questions, but I gotta figure this out somehow. Thanks

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.5.5)
