Power save & Screen saver

Why not, that is the solution?

Like elmac, my computer sleep is also set to Never and I choose when to sleep the computer.

Although I don't use the screen saver my display is set to sleep after 10 min to continue to save power and hopefully extend the life of my over 4 year old iMac's display for a few more years.

So set computer sleep up to an hour or more instead of to never so that the process finish's.

Besides spinning the drive up and down (in and out of sleep) will cause more ware and tare on it than just letting it stay spinning for a few hours.

It sounds like you (& maybe some other users) might be confusing the Screen Saver, display sleep, & system sleep functions. My screen saver & then display sleep sometimes kicks in when I'm not using the keyboard or mouse (& both are set below 20 minutes), but any ongoing operations like file copies via the Finder do in fact prevent system sleep from kicking in.

AFAIK, when system sleep does kick in during something like that, it is because the app doing the copy (or whatever) has not registered the process with the OS as one that should not be interrupted and/or it has no provision for an orderly hiatus, like closing any open files with pending changes, before it suspends operation.

Because of that, it might be relevant if you explained how you are copying files to the network drive.

What is your setting in the Energy Saver system preference for "computer sleep" & in the Desktop & Screen Saver one for "Start Screen Saver"?

Hi, although my SS comes on while transferring the transfer continues..My power save is always set to never, I decide when I wish to Close/Sleep or Shutdown etc..L
