iPad screen stuck on usb and itunes sync screen

I reset the network settings on my iPad and it rebooted. Since then, it only displays the usb and iTunes sync screen which means it needs to re-sync. When I plug it up to my mac, iTunes automatically opens and an error pops up in iTunes saying

"iTunes could not connect to the iPad "iPad" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes."

My problem is that my iPad screen does not allow me to enter my passcode. I have powered off and reset the device several times by holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button for 10secs till the apple logo appears and then let go. It is not working.
Please help!

Try putting the iPad into recovery mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097

I went through the process twice and I get an error message after about 20 minutes of 'preparing to restore' saying
"The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (2006)."

Also note that I updated my iTunes software to the most current version yesterday, so I doubt that the issue is with iTunes.. unless there is a setting I need to modify..
?

So I went through the entire process multiple times and what fixed it is repeating the process with the original usb cable provided in the box. I was using the usb cable the store sold me in the car charger package (because I couldn't find the original at the time).
Perhaps the wattage or voltage is different between the two.

Anyhow, I'm all set.. thanks for your help guys
