Subtitles on Apple TV

Subtitles on Apple TV

Even though in Settings, I can set Subtitles to "English" and Closed Captioning to "English", when I play something on my Apple TV, the subtitles won't appear... Is there something else I should be doing?? Thanks!

The file has to be properly encoded with subtitles or closed captioning for those features to work. Unfortunately, most files available from the iTunes store contain neither.

As mentioned, not all content has subtitles. Only those that state they have subtitles do. And just to make sure you are aware, Apple has no control over what has them and doesn't, the studio provides Apple with the content and the studio decides what to give them, tells them how to sell/rent it (rent only, sale only, both, SD, HD, subtitles, etc etc).
