iPod classic gets stuck and won't advance to next song

My iPod classic seems to get stuck on songs, not turn off easily, and not allow me to skip to the next song or pause a song when playing from a playlist. I've done all the troubleshooting and recommendations from Apple regarding the iPod and it still does it. I end up having to reset it everytime it does this which is at least once a day.....any suggestions or is it dying a slow death??
