Sending Photos as bmp or jpg attachments

I'm looking to find out how to send photos as jpg attachments, which is how I receive photos from other iphone users. However, when I sent a photo, it displays in-line in the email body. When it's received, trying to save it, the only option is a bmp file.

IPhone, iPhone OS 3.1.3

As with the Mail.app on a Mac, all photo attachments are displayed inline or viewed in place within the body of the message - for recieved and sent messages. Depending on the recipient's email client, the attachment will be displayed inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened, or as an attached file only which must be selected for the attachment to be opened and viewed. This does not affect or change the file type. The iPhone's Mail client cannot change an attached file type. If the attached file is a JPEG, it is sent as a JPEG.
