Disable automatic update?

I have satellite internet service and cannot have Software Update download automatically because it puts me over my allowance every time.
Muy problem is that when I uncheck the "Download automatically" box in SU preferences, it rechecks itself when I close the window.
How can I keep it from doing that?

Open your user's /Library/Preferences/ folder, move the com.apple.recentitems and com.apple.systempreferences plist files to the Desktop. Open its ByHost subfolder and move the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.XXXX and com.apple.scheduler.XXXX plist files to Desktop (XXXX signifies a lengthy set of characters). Restart, System Preferences->Software Update, and disable check for updates. Quit System Preferences and check again.
