How do I make a 'cents' symbol (¢) on the iPad?

I've learned how to evoke cool symbols on the iPad like curly quotes, em dashes and signs for currency like the pound, yen, etc., but I can't figure out how to evoke the symbol for U.S. cents (¢), which is easy on the Mac (option-4), but I can't find it on the iPad? I hoped that holding down the "$" key would uncover it, but alas, no.

Any tips?

G

(I had to type this topic on the mac so i could evoke the ¢ symbol)

If you really want to use it, you have to input via copy/paste from another doc or an app like Unicode Table.

i'm disappointed that the symbol ₵ isn't to be found, considering there are many symbols (like ł § ₩ į „) that are much less used than the cents sign and yet are easy to evoke on the iPad.

You can let Apple know here:

A potentially worse omission from the keyboard is the ` character (grave accent, U+0060), which is part of the standard ascii character set and can easily wind up in generated passwords.

Is there a shortcut for the "_" (underbar)?

A trend a decade or so ago pressed me to use it in things like user ID's and this is a pain to manage now.

Any quick 'flick' stroke like someone found with the "'" (single quote) by using a flick up of the '!' (exclamation point)?

I spent a few minutes easter egging and found it not...

I'm using the English (Canada) keyboard (although I checked the emoji board as well).

Since you seemed so surprised, I decided to load other English keyboards for comparison. It isn't on either of the English (Canada) or the English (UK) keyboard. It is only on the "generic" (i.e., "US") keyboard.

Why would that be?

Shall we call it US-centrism or xenophobia?

OF COURSE, in Canada, we just eliminated the penny from our circulating currency, so I guess we don't really need it anymore anyway, right? 😉
