Time&Date change after battery drain > reboot
This happened quite a few times now, and it's becoming annoying.
It happens when I forget my MBP disconnected from power, but with a USB device connected, usually a USB cooling pad or a mobile external hard drive. Battery runs flat and computer shuts down. When it boots back on, the date is set to 01.01.2001 and time to 12:00 AM. It didn't go to a complete shut down before , when it was brand new, but it does now.
I didn't care much because I know that's the recommended way of calibrating the battery, so I thought it wouldn't hurt every now and then. But the date and time change became annoying. I did find it weird during the first 4 - 5 months when the computer just wouldn't completely shut down even with the battery depleted. Now it does shut down completely, but there's the time issue.
Does this mean the "utility" battery inside needs to be replaced ? You know, the one that keeps the date and time running, together with other things…
Should I report this to an Apple tech ? Or is this normal ? Funny enough, never had this going on with my old PowerBook in 5 years.
