Q: Can I connect to an Xsan via NFS or AFP and use fibre channe?

ANother newbie question. If I have my xserve hooked up fibre to an xsan through a switch, can other computers connect to the xsan via NFS or AFP through the Xserver? Here is the setup I am thinking of doing. I have an Xserve, a fibre switch and an xserve raid hooked up to the switch via fibre. The raid is an Xsan. I want to export the xsan as an NFS mount through the Xserver to other computers that do not have fibre cards so they can read and write data. Is this possible? Thanks

Yes. This is possible. However, just be careful on how you use Spotlight. For example, if you are Spotlighting the Xsan volume, and then you reshare a folder via AFP and enable Spotlight searching, you can get some funky results.

For best results, do not use your metadata controller as the reshare server. Use the backup or a third server.
