Best Comics (.cbr/.cbz) App?

Wondering what app people think is best for reading .cbr/.cbz files and why.

See a lot of apps for reading my comics collection on the iPad and trying them out... besides which one is "best" I'm wondering which ones have the easiest way of transferring files from the laptop.

Do any of them register as the default app for .cbr/.cbz file reading? Would be great if I could just drop my comics in DropBox and open them from there.

Have yet to receive my iPad (UK) but I researched this a lot and found out that the best one is something called comiczeal.

I "dry" ran it (ie checked the mac client) and what it does is very efficient - drag your comics to it (any format, cbr, cbz etc) and tell it what device you have (iphone, ipad). It resizes the files for your device and then saves them (.cbi format - which I think is their own).

To sync to ipad is even simpler - the program comes with "syncdocs" a util to do just that. All you do is run comiczeal on the ipad and on the pc, and then you choose "send to device" and you're done 🙂 You gotta be on the same network obviously.

I can't say whether the sync works smoothly or not, no ipad yet. The comiczeal app is ipad specific (you don't get the iphone one with it, otherwise I would have tested).

I have tried ComicZeal and it works pretty well, the only major issue being that is has to convert the comics and it takes a LONG time for it to do so, while there are other apps that read the CBR/CBZ formats as is. Thanks for the feedback though and hope your iPad arrives soon!

Tried CZ again and found if you transfer the comics via iTunes it converts them in the app which is MUCH faster than when you do it through the Mac app. Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere but works nicely.

CZ is ok anyway, gets the job done well enough.

I use Bookman. It's a universal app that can work with the iPad, iPhone, iPod, etc. With this app, not only can you read the comic book's traditional Cbz/Cbr files, but you can also get books in the .pdf format. The only problem that I have with Bookman, is dragging and dropping the books that I have using iTunes. I've looked through-out the manufactures website, with no avail. If anyone can figure that out, please let us know.

I've been using SideBooks which is free. It seems fairly functional; it has a bookshelf view like iBooks and allows grouping of comics into subfolders
