When I go to save a contact from the text messaging queue or recent call log using the iPhone's built-in "Save Contact" button, my phone will allow me to add the numbers as contacts and then recognize those contacts (i.e., it will display the name I set instead of the individual's phone number in my activity logs). However, the contact information is not saved to my address book and can only be found by searching for it using spotlight. It also does not sync to my MobileMe address book.

Contacts I create manually in my address book, either on my phone or on my computer, work fine and I am not having issues syncing.

I have tried importing SIM contacts, but nothing new appeared in my address book.

Does anyone know why this is happening or have similar issues? Thanks! -Kyle

I am using software update 3.1.3 on my phone, and iTunes 9.1.1 on OS X 10.6.3.

First off, importing SIM contacts is not going to do anything for you, since the iPhone does not store contacts on the SIM. That function was just added to allow the importing of contacts from an old phone.

What troubleshooting have you done to the phone so far? First is to power the phone off/on, the second is a reset. This is done by holding the power and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then releasing, ignoring the slide to power off screen. If no help, then a restore, first from a backup, and then as a new phone if necessary.

I'll imagine that you shouldn't have to do more than the first two to get everything going again.

I am having the same problem. When I Bump or save from text messages or calls, it does not get into my contacts. Any suggestions?

I have this very same problem. New calls that come in on my recent call list that I want to label and add to my contacts aren't added, but they turn up in a spotlight search.

However, when I sync to iTunes they are added by going to the INFO tab and clicking on the box that reads "Add contacts created outside this group to (name of your contact list)"

Yes, this is lame and I dont remember having this problem in the past, but that's the only workaround I"ve discovered.

    I hope they fix this.
