Jun 2, 2010 8:44 PM in response to Jolly Giantby Petermgr,Picked up my laptop from the service center. They said they could not replicate the problem. Within 10 minutes of having it home I played a video with at least 11 freezes occurring. I checked the system profiler and have numerous error lines of the following:
Jun 2 20:23:31 Peter-G-MacBook-Pro iTunes[149]: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSSetWindowCaptureExcludeShape: Failed
Jun 2 20:23:31 Peter-G-MacBook-Pro [0x0-0x13013].com.apple.iTunes[149]: Wed Jun 2 20:23:31 Peter-G-MacBook-Pro.local iTunes[149] <Error>: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSSetWindowCaptureExcludeShape: Failed

Jun 2, 2010 11:04 PM in response to Petermgrby Chris CA,Do you have *Home Sharing* enabled and/or Genius turned on?
If so, turn them off and see if it still hangs.
Also, try this...
Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select *Create library* and create it on the desktop.
Now quit iTunes. No need to do anything with this new library.
Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* and select the *iTunes library* file in \Music\iTunes\ folder. This should be your original iTunes library file.
See if it still hangs. -

Thanks Chris. I will give your recommendation a try. I do not have Home Sharing or Genius enabled/on.
I'll test further today and post my findings.

I once again contacted Apple Support and this time they put me through to a Senior Advisor. He had me submit the System log and, once again, delete everything on the hard drive, reinstall the OS, apply updates, setup a new iTunes account, and run tests. During the reinstall I received a phone call from Apple saying that nothing looked unusual in the log. Just finished the install and I'm still running into problems. I left a message with the senior rep at Apple and am waiting for further instructions. I'll post any new developments.

Apple is replacing my unit. There was nothing definitive in what was causing the problem. Should be receiving the replacement Mac next week.
Thanks for the suggestions and support!

Hi Aibak,
Although Apple is exchanging my laptop, I am not completely convinced that the problem is hardware related. I have been following this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2420192 where others are experiencing freezing as well. It could very well be related to the current OS which apparently has an upgrade in the works. No one can say if it will address the issues that I had.
As for your laptop, I would contact Apple and arrange for service if you've tried everything else, including reinstall of the OS. However, if it's not feasible for you to send in your Mac, then perhaps waiting for the OS update, or trying some of the various options in the other thread, may help you.
Through dealing with my issues with iTunes I also noticed occasional freezes during Safari use and iPhoto. While iTunes freezes were the most frequent, I believe now that the problem is not just an iTunes problem, but rather an OS or hardware related issue.
