Even though a workaround was posted, I don't consider this to be a solution. *Why*, when *deleting* an account, is the SMTP server information (including username and password) retained?!
I consider this to be a major security flaw in the iOS design.
The retained information is *not* visible after the account is deleted unless another POP or IMAP account is configured. If another account is configured, someone could go into the SMTP settings for that account and view previously-configured SMTP servers.
This SMTP information may be retained by design to increase ease of use. However, when a user's password information is saved without them knowing it, that is a major security flaw. When a user taps a big red button to *delete* an account, all of the associated information with that account should be *deleted*.
FINALLY - something that works! (and in iOS 5!).
well, I appear to be missing the unmissable delete button
made the host name a single letter, sez invalid, saved anyway - but no way to delete
I also can't change the primary smtp server for an account
See if you have an installed profile, then try to delete it. Go to Settings>General and scroll down, if you have an installed profile it shoud be just above the "reset" option, click on it and you'll see the description, it may contain the e-mail account you're trying to delete. I hope this'll resolve your problem.
yes .. this works.. did this on ios 7.1.2
This workaround also works on iOS 8.0.2 and it is still required there.
Two fixes have to be done by Apple:
- When removing an e-mail account the corresponding SMTP-accounts have to be deleted automatically.
- The delete option for additional SMTP-servers has to be available all time.
