My new Nano will not charge with my generic "Dynex" (Best Buy) docking station unless it is in "Sync' mode. As long as it is plugged in to the base it charges but will not play as it says "connected" and is waiting for iTunes to open for a Sync. If I "eject" it using the Windows eject icon, it becomes disconnected from charging (and the PC) and goes back to the menu where I can access my music but it's on battery power.
My Iphone, however, will eject but it stays in charging mode and allows me to use it while in the base. Seems if I want to play my Nano through my PC speakers, I can't have it charge at the same time. Kind of dumb to not be able to charge it while it's plugged into the base and use it at the same time.
My regular iPods also allow playing while charging when ejected. Is this just a function of the Nano?
You can play the Nano while it is charging if the Nano is plugged directly to your computer. Also,
some chargers allows you to do the same. My "charger" lets me play my Nano while it's charging. Its doing so at this very minute.
Contact "Dynex" support department to find out their capabilities with the iPod Nano 5th Gen with Video.
My nano is at this moment connected to my PC via an Apple sync cord. It comes up as "connected" with no menu. When I use the eject button, it goes back to the menu but disconnects from power and runs on battery.

Are you positive? _Do you actually see your battery draining?_ iPod Nano should stay _fully charged_ while connected to your computer.
Yes. I know the battery is draining. When on external power (and charging) the Nano (and other iPods) shows a "Lightning bolt" like symbol inside the little picture of the battery. When fully charged, it shows an "AC Plug" symbol. When OFF power and using battery power it shows a battery which slowly drains (goes from fully colored in to just an outline). When it is playing after being "ejected" even though it is still connected to the cable, it shows the battery symbol indicating it is using internal battery, not being on ac power. After a couple of hrs of play the battery dies and the Nano gives a "Low battery Power" warning then dies.
