How to logout/logoff from the email account ?
I just set up my yahoo email on my ipad, but How to logout/logoff from the email account ? i can'y find any sign for that.
thanks..
True. If apple wants to reach the level of security that my bank apps have, they will have to fix the email security. The email security on iPad is higher risk than bank apps. Personally, I expect more. Perhaps you do not. I still maintain and expect high security - it needs fixed.
I agree. My whole family is sharing my iPad 2 and I realized my daughter was able to see some of my messages about her Christmas presents yesterday! How frustrating!
I have ipad3 you can go the settings mail and delete emai accoun
it is very easy
Delete the Mail account then download the free Yahoo ap. it solves the problem. the apple philosophy of not being meant to share is ludicrous. My entire family shares one.

This is not Apple's philosophy - it is your statement and your opinion. If you want to share your iPad with your family - have it at and go to town!
Just don't complain that it does not have a function to password protect your email account - since it was in fact originally designed to be a single user device.
That's what I meant, single use device. And that philosophy is ridiculous. It is not hard to program log out buttons. Most apps have it. Apple just wants everyone to have their own and pay accordingly.
A single user device does not mean that everything inside should be left gaping.. Would locking the gate be enough to protect the entire house? Why then is the Fidelity/USAA/Bank of America app providing a logout button for their iPad app if they agreed with this philosophy? iPad will always have multiple users (within the family mostly) using it and the mail app has to be fixed to cater to this requirement. If one wishes to keep their email open forever just add the stupid checkbox 'keep me signed in'. Email like it or not is as important to logout off just as financial applications.
I cant believe we have wasted several hundred hours of our collective time while it takes less than 20 minutes to add and test a logout functionality in Mail app. And finally doesnt it "rub" against the apple user-intuitive philosophy? Gaarsh!
I completely agree. Apple should consider this and push an update with the next OS update. So for now, we can use an app. For me, the Yahoo ap. works OK for this, but I wish I could just use the dedicated Mail icon and be able to sign out of Mail.
So there is really no way to logout from mail? I activated it with my email address, so my wife and kids can read and send email from my account? I think the competitors don't have these kind of shortcomings and lapse of security issues!
What you percieve as a security issue is because you are trying to use the device in a manner it was not designed for.
Other than sending feedback to Apple, there's not much else you can do.
Matt
I think I got round this by changing the password for that mail account to something incorrect so if you try to turn the email account back on it won't let you without signing in. Then when you get your device back you can change it back to the correct password.
The only thing you can do is after use, turn off the mail on the settings and anyone who wants to open up the mail will have to log in. If they don't know the log in, then they cannot read your mail. Go to "Settings" click "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"and you will see the different email accounts. Click on the arrow on the right for each one and turn the mail off. If anyone clicks on the Mail Icon on the home page, the mail menu will open and you have to choose which mail you want to open and you will be presented with a login requirements. It's not foolproof but it can prevent anyone who tries to use it when you are not around. Alsoif the would be user doesn't know anything about iPads.
but what if i want to sign in with another email address on the same device? how do i log out of my email?
You can set up multiple email accounts on the iPad. You don' need to log out. See the manual for instructions on how to set up an email account on the iPad:
I think everyone on this thread is missing the point, big time.
OK my wife and kids can see my email, not a big concern to me personally, but what if someone stole my iPhone or iPad? I keep both in my bag as I travel through London - bags get stolen in London every minute of the day.
What security is there? A 4 digit password - are you kidding? A half decent theif (or scumbag as I like to call them) will walk past that in seconds... Then what have they got? My email account? That is shocking!
Also, when I delete my Gmail emails on my MBP they don't delete on my iPad or iPhone (another thread I agree (Cloud?) and there may well be a fix for this) but my entire life is in that email account and I'd be dead as a doornail if some filthy identity theif got into it...
I can't believe there is no logout button - and why not? How stupid! What is the benefit? What is the cost?
All I can think of is that I am going to have to stop using Mail on my devices and go back to webmail or a Gmail app (which is what I am gong to download straight after this post).
I can't believe I'd never thought of this madness before.
I love Apple and have given them a hellava lot of my cash, but you know what, sometimes I bluddy hate 'em as well.
You can always enable a complex passcode if you do not like the simpler 4-digit one. You can also set the device to wipe itself of all data after 10 failed passcode attempts.
