Posting to forums/websites in Safari on IPad/IPhone
I've run into a situation and I want to know if anyone else has run into it. I do work for Devry University and I can do everything except post to discussion threads..if you click on respond and type in the text box and click on Post, nothing happens...no matter how many times you do it, you just can't get your comments to post. Has anyone else experienced this with Devry or any other website, and have you found a solution to this?
My wife had to go back to the desktop to post replies to assignments and such. She authors alot of her stuff on her iPad, then transfers it to the main computer for that last step. A bit of a pain, but we found alot of college sites are using IE only coding that M$ makes their broswers recognize.
The problem occurs on forums that use JavaScript based "Rich Text" Editing fields (the ones that allow you to apply formatting to text such as Bold, underline, colours etc.)
There's no workaround for it. Either the forum software would have to provide a different text field for iPhone OS devices, or we'll have to wait until Apple updates Safari.
I have to update...iOS4 does NOT address the issue. Posting is still not working on the ecollege site for Devry. That's really unfortunate....I want to use my iPad as a true mobile device, but having to go back and forth between the laptop to post on Devry and then back here for other use is really inexcusable.
Pearson Ecollege has a mobile solution in their website for people who want to use it with a mobile device...go to ecollege.com and it will be at the bottom...I suggest you let your school know if it uses Ecollege to get this so students can truly work mobile!
I just bought an ipad and was hugely dissappointed that I cannot post in ecollege the workaround worked for one posting but then when I tried posting in another it didnt! Very dissappointed! Some needs to figure this out! ASAP!
I've posted to around a dozen different forums and document repositories using Safari on the iPad - no problems.
Contact the admins for whatever site or list your are having problems with and ask what their policies are in terms of supporting mobile devices (and browsers other than IE).
It's DeVry and it's ecollege online forum. Just spoke with ecollege they have a mobile portal not connected to DeVrys' website. Whats weird is I was able to do the workaround and post and then when i tried to post again it was acting up again. This *****. I do not want to return my Ipad!
When I talked to DeVry support in December, the tech told me that the iPad was not supported and hung up on me. No lie. Hung up. I don't know if I was the gazzillionth caller with an iPad or what...but being hung up on was kind of rude...
