I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?

Hi,

I know about how to change country etc for purchases in iTunes, this isn't about that.

I had a UK iTunes account and bought apps there.
I've now moved to Australia and changed my iTunes account to Australia using an Australian credit card, and I've bought some apps here.

iTunes is telling me that I have a bunch of Apps I can update, though when I go to update them it says there's none available.

I've gone to the UK iTunes Store and clicked update, and there they are - but they won't download as I need to change my billing info again.

So, here's the question - is iTunes actually that limited that one account can only have one credit card linked to it?

I live permanently in Australia now, but have purchased over 100 Apps while in the UK... am I right in saying that every time I want to update an app I have to fill out all my UK credit card and billing information, update, then fill in all my Australian billing details again when I want to switch back to the Australian store... over and over again for the rest of my life!?

I understand some Apps won't be available in one country VS the other, that's not the problem here. This is with worldwide available apps - I can see the apps in the Australian store, but because I've bought them in UK I can't update them in Australia.

You mean country.

No. You must have a credit card and billing address in that country.

Or every store means having residency and credit card in the same country?

Residence, billing address, credit card and physically being present in that country.

GOogle is not perfect. I had to change my account and even though it is still you and you provi google with all your IDs, you still can't transfer your purchases from one account to another. While for Apple you just change your email address in the apple account settings and you can apps previously purchased with a different email woth a new one.

google= impossible, apple= no problem.

ANd FYI you don't have to be physically in that country. You just need to have AN address from that country and a credit card and you can make purchase.

No, you have to be physically in the country to use its store, otherwise you will be violating the store's terms (terms that you agreed to) e.g. for the US store (other countries are similar) : http://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.

It hasn't got anything to do with the law. It's about Apple policy.

Apple considers it more important to be able to enforce strict DRM restrictions than to make it easy for a few international travelers to use their store.

These restrictions are only a problem for 1 in 1000 Apple customers so Apple's not going to fix it.

My personal feeling is that DVD region codes were the start of something awful for media users. In the days of paper books if you bought a book in one country you could read it anywhere in the world. Today you don't have that right with DVD's.

Apple has licensing and resale agreements with media providers that restrict where they can sell various products. That's why the Apple store has different goods in different countries. But this doesn't really explain their anal policies regarding credit cards. They are already identifying your country of origin from your IP address so the restriction to the local store is enforced regardless of your credit card. It might have more to do with their revenue recognition. They want to keep foreign earnings in foreign banks so they don't have to pay US taxes. Allowing international credit card purchases might increase their tax burden.

I have always used Apple because it is usually user friendly and responds to the needs of its users HOWEVER this really *****- does Apple not realise that it users are global and often have to move country for professional reasons - cannot believe that they cant make a single sign on that works whatever country you are in - come on Apple get your finger out and get on with it -

You might want to take note of the following before changing countries:

• The store credit from your original country won’t be available in your iTunes account in the new country.

• Your iTunes purchases may not be available in the new country's store. Before you change countries, download all of your purchases. For steps on how to do this, see article:

https://support.apple.com/HT201272

• You’ll need a credit or debit card associated with a valid billing address for the new country. An iTunes Store Gift Card from the new country will also work as a payment method.

• Items that you’ve already bought won’t show up under Purchased when you’ve changed countries. You’ll be able to download your purchased apps in the new country's store as long as their store also has the apps available.

• After you’ve changed your country and we’ve cashed out your iTunes Store balance, we can’t issue refunds for purchases made in your previous country.

If you’ve set up Family Sharing, you’ll need to remove all family members from your family in order to change your account’s country.

For information on how to remove family members, see this page:

When you’re ready to change countries, follow the steps in this article:

I had the same problem and Apple support was useless. The solution is to buy the same item (exact same) in the new country and most of the times it tells you "you already bought this item, do you want to download it for free". The issue is you can only give it a go clicking on "buy" so if by chance it doesn't work you end up paying again. I moved from Colombia to Belgium and had this issue. Out of 19 songs I was able to recover 8, payed for three again and the rest I couldnt find the same version on the Belgian store so didn't attempt.

I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?
