I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?

Hi,

I know about how to change country etc for purchases in iTunes, this isn't about that.

I had a UK iTunes account and bought apps there.
I've now moved to Australia and changed my iTunes account to Australia using an Australian credit card, and I've bought some apps here.

iTunes is telling me that I have a bunch of Apps I can update, though when I go to update them it says there's none available.

I've gone to the UK iTunes Store and clicked update, and there they are - but they won't download as I need to change my billing info again.

So, here's the question - is iTunes actually that limited that one account can only have one credit card linked to it?

I live permanently in Australia now, but have purchased over 100 Apps while in the UK... am I right in saying that every time I want to update an app I have to fill out all my UK credit card and billing information, update, then fill in all my Australian billing details again when I want to switch back to the Australian store... over and over again for the rest of my life!?

I understand some Apps won't be available in one country VS the other, that's not the problem here. This is with worldwide available apps - I can see the apps in the Australian store, but because I've bought them in UK I can't update them in Australia.

Here a clarification to your points

Many applications will not be available in the Vietnam store because Apple allows programmers to limit in which countries Apps are available.

Any settings or documents you had in applications which you "repurchase" you will not have anymore in the new app. All the data will be lost. Exceptions are apps which store data only in the cloud (Facebook, etc). At any rate you will have to do all the logins and preferences again.

If a programmer submits the same App to the Store two times (separated by region) then you will have to pay again (not free download). this is not clearly visible in the App store.

Any applications which you do not have in the new store (and therefore cant download) you can also not update the old version..

I am a duel citizen (AUS/USA) currently residing in Australia. My USA account was recently disabled because i made a purchase in Aus with my US account. Support didnt care to see my documents with proof and just kept redirecting me back to their T&Cs.

They seriously should make a universal store! I cant even comprehend how f**king ridiculous it is that they don't! No wonder people download torrents, etc! Some people want to do the right thing but Apple prevent it. They surely would make MORE money that way?

I was about to buy two more ipads prior to them disabling my account but I am now going to get Windows 8 tablets so my family can add to our Xbox 360 gamer scores…. which sure as **** is better than game centre any day of the week! So thank you Apple for disabling my account just in time and I would like to give you a huge middle finger to show my appreciation!

@Dat1510

Ghostway is right. So, if you switch your iTunes country store, you still CAN redownload your all purchased apps for FREE as long as those are available in your new iTunes country store. Otherwise, you will lose them. Checking those in your new iTunes country store before switching can be a good idea. But, remember, once you switched your store, your redownloaded apps CANNOT be updated FOREVER. And i think this is the worse part. SUCK!

In my case, after considering everything, i decided to keep my original iTunes account (US) instead of making new Indonesia iTunes account. Eventhough my US credit card has been expired, i still can buy and update my 150 purchased apps by using US iTunes Gift Card, which luckily i can buy the original one from Indonesian seller online. I just keep few redeemed dollars in my account to have my US account kept working. So far so good.

But, still, i have not changed, or probably will not change, my opinion about Apple that it is actually NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY COMPANY at all. In this global community? Oh come on?

I've managed to switch back to my 1st itunes store, which was thai, the majority of my apps were there, so I'm going to stick to this forever.

I also managed to get a refund for itunes match, with an email confirmed which said

"

Hello XXX,

Greetings! This is XXX once again and after reviewing the circumstances of your case, we've determined that a full refund for your iTunes Match subscription is an appropriate exception to the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final. In five to seven business days, a credit of 21.99 GBP should be posted to the credit card that appears on the latest receipt for the subscription""

my problem now is to find another credit card which is valid in thailand, i don't know how it happened, but the card i've used for the last 2 years, is no longer valid for Thailand store?

anyone know why ? has their been some changes to the stores.???

Hello,

Ideed, there has been a change to the stores.

Since August they force you to use the country store of the country indicated by your credit card. You will have to find a credit card in Thailand and use it. Any prepaid card Thai Credit Card will work also. Please let me know if u find any.

Previously the rule has been based on the location of your computer (also bad).

Apple does refund the iTunes Match price and even lets you download all the songs before it turns off the iTunes Match function for your old account.

Hey Guys,

I went through the whole thread and really find it stupid and harrowing for the loyal apple customers. At times apple just doesnt get it.

Now, I have a slightly different problem. The case is that I am from India and I have two iPhone( one mine and other my sister's). I have made a common apple id between my sister and I for purchases so that we can both use the apps. Now the issue is that she plans to go to the US in a month for 2 years for higher studies. So, now can she still be able to use the previously made apple id for our purchases. Note: I would still be having the same payment options as i would be using it too. Will she have to buy the apps again or will be able to use the old id. I mean cant she just change countries in the itunes store.

So technically the question is what if one person is in India and another in the US. Can they still a common apple for purchases???

Your sister still able to use India store in the US there will not be any location identify or verification. But please remember if she changes the store to US you'll lost all your purchase that you have purchased the apps in India store.

She do better to create seperate iTunes account to use it in the US if she is planning to have bank account in the US.

Well. Now that I've read the hole topic, I start to be affraid. You see, I live in France. There are a lot of apps that I need or could find some use on the american iTunes Store. You're telling that if I use the american account, it could be terminated because I use it from France ? This is insanity. So I'm stuck like that ? I don't have the right to do that ? I can't use my money like I want ? Allright. Cool.

Today, I was planning to change my Apple ID for an american one. I already know that I'll have to buy all my applications again. But I finally can't because the Apple ID would be terminated if I did that ?

Can't I get an authorization from Apple or some stuff like that ?

Well, You can still use the America account in France like i said in previous thread there will be no location identify or verification. You can use America iTunes account (or any iTunes Store account) anywhere in the this planet (even in space if you are smart to use internet in space 😉).

If you're planning to use France iTunes account with French Bank account i suggest you to create separate account and you could set the French Bank details in your alternative account so there will be no affection with your America iTunes account.

Apple won't terminate your account but you could loss purchase if you change your stores that you're currently using, So for some reason including bypass purchase (it's hacking without paying for the app) Apple will suspend you from using the iTunes.

You'll be good to go forward without losing any purchase or iTunes Match data (including iCloud too).

Good Luck! 🙂

So until that I often change my accounts, there will be no termination ? I don't like the multi-account, I just wanna change my account for an american one and pay with PayPal (until here I was paying in iTunes Store cards) because there are more applications for me when I'm searching.

If I make an american (U.S.) account and ALWAYS use it, paying with PayPal, there will be no problem ? Apple won't terminate my account ? For real ?

There won't be termination. You can use your America iTunes Store in France and nothing will happen it will be normal but only if you change store to France you will lost the apps that you already bought in America iTunes Store.

Yes it's for real.

Oh. So that's it ? I mean, the french apps can always be redownloaded from the french account, but I won't be able to use french ones with the american account ? If it's just like that, everything's perfect and the world is pink to me then. Thank you a lot, my friend.

You can still download French app using America iTunes store but if only the app is available for America iTunes you can download it for free either if it's showing you $ xx.xx Buy you will get it for free and you won't be charged again and if you don't have the French app in the America iTunes Store then you can't do anything and you won't able to download the app again.

If you're worried of losing your French iTunes Store purchase then i might suggest you to create another account for America iTunes so you do better to use that account regularly in America or anywhere.

I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?
