Q: I moved country, changed iTunes stores and now my Apps can't be updated!?

Hi,

I know about how to change country etc for purchases in iTunes, this isn't about that.

I had a UK iTunes account and bought apps there.
I've now moved to Australia and changed my iTunes account to Australia using an Australian credit card, and I've bought some apps here.

iTunes is telling me that I have a bunch of Apps I can update, though when I go to update them it says there's none available.

I've gone to the UK iTunes Store and clicked update, and there they are - but they won't download as I need to change my billing info again.

So, here's the question - is iTunes actually that limited that one account can only have one credit card linked to it?

I live permanently in Australia now, but have purchased over 100 Apps while in the UK... am I right in saying that every time I want to update an app I have to fill out all my UK credit card and billing information, update, then fill in all my Australian billing details again when I want to switch back to the Australian store... over and over again for the rest of my life!?

I understand some Apps won't be available in one country VS the other, that's not the problem here. This is with worldwide available apps - I can see the apps in the Australian store, but because I've bought them in UK I can't update them in Australia.

    I have just submitted to the iTunes feedback regarding this. I hope you all can do the same to raise awareness for this issue.

    The link to submit feedback is:

    Thanks everyone and please play your part to make this happen.

    It's getting pretty annoying, and even though most of my apps are free I can't transfer it to the new store. If I download the same app in the Australia store, it will say I already purchased this previously. Which means you can't even re-purchase the app to get the notifications. You're never going to get update notifications for any apps you obtained before.

    I hope Apple provides a better way around this, because this is simply ridiculous.

    For example see here:

    http://i.imgur.com/rRchOz1.png

    Yep it's stupid, you can download again but still never receive notifications, and as you have bought it before, you cannot buy it again from the new store to receive notifications.

    Also, has anyone else noticed the new iTunes update has stopped the trick of changing store and updating apps before you change you billing details? It is so lame. They state that you buy a licence, not the app, so they should refund the licence payment when you shift country so you can repurchase in the new country.

    This is where digital distribution fails hard.

    Q: Ozdude, and everybody else that are part of this thread, please kindly answer this. Are you certain that after I re-download all my apps again from the new country AppStore I moved to, I wont ever again receive any update notifications? That does not make any sense whatsoever and I please really need this question to be confirmed and spelled out in clear, since I am just about to change my country and have a significant amount of purchased apps I need.

    @Silverbridge:

    1. You can still update apps on your iOS device that are _installed_ without any issue.

    2. You can't update in iTunes, unless you change your country BACK to the one you were in previously.

    3. You still get update notifications in iTunes in terms of the little badge on the sidebar. But when you click update apps, there are no apps to be seen. You have to switch back to your old country.

    4. You don't have to pay for any apps you previously purchased in your old country but even if you download the apps you cannot get updates working for any apps you previously purchased!

    So what do is every time the updates badge hit about 15, I change my country back and update them all then change my country back.

    SO TEDIOUS AND ANNOYING.

    Why change country *on the App Store * and * iTunes * ?

    Why not live / stay in new country and download / set App Store to OLD / home country ?

    I'm talking just about the app store and iTunes

    Because when you move permanently to a new country you usually cancel your old credit cards etc. Without a proper billing method you can't purchase apps.

    I have to change to the new country in order to enter in the new payment information.

    Not to mention there are specific apps in the new country e.g. For my case Australia specific apps for Australians that are NOT available in New Zealand.

    E.g. Apple Store official app - which is only available in Australia.

    @mkInz

    Thank you for your answer. This is madness, and we all need please to join forces and bring this matter to the attention of the lovely people at Apple. In 2013 people move, live and work in multiple countries and I understand and respect licensing agreements and copyrights, but this has to be fixed. If one moves AppStore and go through the tedious work of re-downloading everything (excluding the nation specific restricted Apps) it is pure nonsense and makes no sense whatsoever (since the digital tag has moved to the new region) why they can't digitally arrange that your future now re-downloaded Apps, are from that day, tagged so they can receive updates and notifications. It's simply a matter of software alteration and good business that this is fixed and updated.

    Let's create an appeal (joint) to Apple explaining everything and taking in consideration, copyrights, licensing and distribution agreements, region restriction etc and bring this to their attention and I am sure that they perhaps could fix this silly matter. We live in a modern digital era, people migrate and so Apple needs to stay on top of this?

    I do not think this  necessary

    I am using country x's App Store with a credit card from country y

    They are not even as close as NZ and AUD !!!

    I'm NOT moving citizenship etc ... I'm on a long trip

    @Subu

    Well of course if you're simply on a long trip you don't have to change country.

    For those who have moved permanently or long term this isn't an option. I have moved permanently, so I'd like to update my country to reflect that.

    My billing address in my old country no longer applies, I'm sure legally you need to entire a valid billing address.

    I have the same complaint, Rob - I have kept my UK accounts while living here in Spain (partly as I still have a business there) and want to keep my apps and content in English. But I also want/need to be able to get apps here, like credit card apps which obvsiously require the local version to be able to validate local credit cards on the iPhone/iPad.

    It is ridiculous having zero portability on apps and content in today's globalised world - which Apple itself has helped in so many other ways to create!

    I have just found out how to do it and the way you do it is:

    1.go to settings and select iTunes and App Store

    2.click iTunes Match and it should have worked

    Oh absolutely that works, ecxept you have to go through that process everytime again for every app concerned and everytime an update comes out.

    Hey,

    Just delete the old apps u downloaded from other stores and download them again in the App Store u currently have access to. All apps purchased with ur account would be downloadable free of charge. Don't worry, just click the buy button, you will get this message"since u own a previous version of the app, this update will be free of charge" trust me, it won't charge u again(I had the same prob when I moved )

    No, actually u just have to do it once, then u will have the app under your apple account in that particular local AppStore. Further updates will be automatic
