Signatures in iPad Mail

iPad, iPhone OS 3.1.3
Been using new pad 3 for a few days. Can't help to think that Andriod is way ahead. All these features come out of the box; and if you don't like it, there are countless alternatives.
Also applies to Document editors, email clients, Calendar viewers, Data usage monitors
and of course WIDGETS - best thing since sliced bread.
No doubt the features on the Andriod devices can be appealing. However, I've seen what the poorly vetted apps and a virus can do to one. I'll pass.
I hope nobody minds me promoting my app here, but this thread seemed relevant - I also wondered why there was no option to add email signatures on my iPad and so have just submitted my solution to Apple for review. It's called Sign Off and hopefully it will be approved soon. In the meantime, you can check it out at www.thesignoffapp.com.
Yes, you have to cut and paste when replying/forwarding but there's no way around that. And I've gone for images rather than HTML as they render more reliably across all email clients. It's a v1.0 release so please go easy on me :-)
Well, there is obviously a demand for it. Where is the image stored? Is it as an include to the email as a recipient of such, I've issues with that (showing as an attachment rather than inline). How do you solve that issue?
James, you make a very good point. To be honest I wasn't aware that certain mail clients don't display an image inline. So following some research I've had to do a little rework. The signature will now be HTML linked to an image that will be uploaded/downloaded to/from a server. I've had a number of technical hurdles to overcome with this app but this should represent the best compromise, resulting in a completely bespoke signature that displays correctly across as many recipient mail clients as possible.
You may also run into the issue that there are still clients, and in more advanced email apps setting, that lack support for HTML in general. Fortunately most, but not all, strip out the HTML and simply display the text within the tags.
No one solution at this point. Would love to see Apple add a more robust signature function, but ...
Yeah, as you say, there is no one solution. The way it was (i.e. just an image) worked beautifully for Mac Mail and iOS Mail, but you can't ignore the needs of Outlook users.
I hear what you are saying, Sign Off will inevitably be criticised by some for not supporting absolutely every mail client, but for the majority I hope it will be a huge improvement over 'Sent from my iPad'. I will resubmit to Apple in a couple of days.
Thanks for bringing the attachment issue to my attention....
No problem.
Good luck with the app.
Okay folks, Sign Off has been approved and is now on the App Store for $2. I'd be grateful of your feedback and suggestions you may have to improve it. I hope you like it....
Thanks very much. 😉
So, the iPad 3 and the new iphone 5 doesn't support image email signatures?
It's not a device/model issue. It's a matter of iOS. But no, it is not supported at this time in the native email app.
I was looking up how to do this also, so I whent to the help website and saw this
Change your email signature: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Signature. If you have more than one mail account, tap Per Account to specify a different signature for each account.
I dont know if this still works, but it might.
nevermind, it doesnt work with IOS 6.
Create signature in Sign Off ($1), select your signature and tap 'Copy Signature' and then close the app and go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Signature and then tap and hold in the appropriate box and select 'Paste'. It will then display your signature (with image if you put one in when creating your signature) every time you write, reply or forward an email using the Mail app. You can set a different signature for each email account as you need.
Warning - "I am the developer of Sign Off and I may result in financial gain from the above comment". This solution does work though...
