Computers not showing up in Finder Network pane

Hi;

Prior to, and immediately after, installing a new external HD, the other computers on my network appeared on the Network pane in the Finder as expected. I was able to drag/copy files back and forth.

I then updated the firmware for the external HD, restarted (several times) and now the other computers no longer show up in the Finder nor in the Disk Utility.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks;
Chris

Find IP on computers...

http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/topics/communication/ethernet/office/winxp/2882/

On this one In finder, select Go menu>Connect to Servers..., type in afp://ip.of.another.computer, like...

afp://10.0.1.5
afp://192.168.1.3

Or if it's a PC...

smb://10.0.1.5
smb://192.168.1.3

Does it show up and mount now?

If not, are the 1st 3 numbers of the IP the same as yours?

Hi Henry, and a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

While you may get help or a solution here, It's quite acceptable to start a new topic of your own, certainly feel free to start a new topic to attract more helpers to your particular situation, here's a link if as is often the case, it's hard to find out where to do it...

You need to add a User to the PC, or try with the PC's username & PC's Password.

On the Mac, did you enable Windows Sharing in System Preferences>Sharing>Services ?

That has to be set first on the PC.
