What are these blue dots in my text????

You have turned on Show Invisibles. Blue dots means space.
To turn off the blue dots go View > Hide invisibles

(1) Is your configuration description up to date ?
It claims "mac OS 10.4.7" which is too old for iWork '09.

(2) You activated the feature :
Show Invisibles.
Disable it and you will no longer see these blue dots where the text embed spaces.

It appears to me that you have "Show Invisibles" Checked. Look at Pages>View>Show/Hide Invisibles.
