Can't open pages files on iPad

Sounds like you're using an older version of Pages on your Mac. Pages for iPad will only open Pages 09 docs.

Hmmm. All my Pages docs from Mac have loaded fine. Some of them have lost some of the comlplex layout formatting as expected, but they open fine. Sorry to hear you're having the issue.

Why does the app only work with Pages 09? This is really annoying! Does anyone know if it will be updated to work with 08?

There were big changes to the Pages 09 File format. Pages for Mac has a converter. You could request one from Apple for Pages for iPad.

How do you convert it on a Mac? I can only see options to save it as 05 and 08. I have found a way around it by exporting pages document on Mac as a word doc and then it will open in pages on iPad! Seems a ridiculous way to do it tho

Please tell me this is not the case?! So if I want to use my ipad to edit a 'pages' document written on my Mac I have to buy a whole new iWork suite?

Luke: The converter is built in. When you open a pages 08 doc it converts it to 09. You have an option of saving a copy in pages 08.

Munk: if you have an older version of Pages on your Mac, then yes. Your best bet is probably to work with it I Doc format. Both Pages 08 and TextEdit can save in Doc format. It's not known when the next version of pages will be out so the decision to upgrade would be based on a guess.

Yeah it's all a little confusing. Your page 08 doc would need to be converted to 09 with a desktop copy of Pages 09 in order for you to read it on your iPad.

You might try copying it from your mac in Pages 08 to iwork.com and then seeing if you can open it on your iPad. I can tell since I don't have iWork 08 on my Mac anymore. Long shot, but worth a try.

I wondered if anyone knows if iWork.com works with pages 08? And does it work with .doc formats on the ipad/iwork.com? If so.. I could export pages 08 documents to iWork.com, load them on my ipod, then export them back into .doc onto iWork.com for use on my mac.. 🙂
