Anyone using a hardshell case for the new Macbook Pro 15"?

Hello,

I got my Macbook Pro 15" i7 HR-AG a week ago and really want a hardshell case. I was interested in the Speck ones but contacted the company and was told that they don't know when the new cases will be out but to get the new ones to work you either have to use a nail file to shave off the part that is beside the magsafe or deal with the magsafe charging on a slight angle. Also heard that In Case is coming up with a new design as well.

Is anyone using a hardshell case right now? If so what are you using and have you had to make modifications?

iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 17" & 1.67GHz with Leo, PowerbookPC G4 512 MB DDR SDRAM, Mac OS X (10.4.9), latest itunes

I have a red Speck See-Thru cover on my Macbook Air. Besides fitting tight and adding rigidity to the whole computer, it look great!

Tip: My HD went out and I had to remove the case to send the computer in for repair. Well, the case fits so tight, that i put a small cracked in it when I removed it, so take caution in removing it. User uploaded file

Does your power adapter charge at a slight angle?

Yes, but the case does not interfere with it.

I see you have the See Thru model?

Correct.

Is it hard to grip?

No. It's actually better to grip than the slippery aluminum case. User uploaded file

I am using the IN-CASE shell on my i7 MBP, and like it a lot. To use the new right angle power cable, I had to trim off around a .25 inch of the shell material behind the power connector. I called IN-CASE and they did not know when they would have the new designed cases in. But the rep I spoke with advised me on hang on to my receipt, they would replace it for free when they became available. The mod is minor, and hardly noticeable.

I used to have the incase hardshell but I don't use it any more. There was some dust, dirt or something that got lodged between the case and aluminum and scratched it (not sure how it got there since it barely leaves my house) also I noticed a big temperature increase with it on (iStat pro) so it's now sitting in my closet. I think it's meant to be naked 🙂

DCGOO,

Are you having any problems with the case opening as I've heard that is a major complain with the Incase one. What colour is yours? Good to know a new one is coming out and they will exchange it for your. That might be enough to get me to get an In Case one. Does your laptop get hot with it on?

sirfaba,

Thanks for the input. Your the second person I've heard from regarding scratches.

Your welcome. If you decide to get one just be careful, take it off gently and clean it every once and a while. I would suggest using iKlear- Apple Polish (can buy at Apple Retail stores or online) to clean the case and the Mac. I put my case on if I go on a trip or I plan on using it outside.

If it is installed correctly, there is no interference opening the MBP. There is a very small lip that clips over the top of the bottom of the rear hinge. It is easy to miss, but if missed, the laptop will not open all the way. Just make sure that lip is over the top and it will be fine.

I have the "frost" color, basically neutral. I have noticed no heat issue, the bottom of the incase is full of holes. CPU temp is usually not over 40 -50C range (right now, 37C).

I particularly like the rubberized fell of the case, not only is it easy to grip to carry, but it is much less likely to slide off your lap (or tray table).
