Welcome to the  Discussion Forums

What do you mean 'go to'

Do you mean they won't sync or won't even stream (I note your other thread)

If they simply won't sync, it's because only a primary library will sync content.

If they won't stream, then the content may well not be checked in itunes.

I also have the chain link by my library on the apple tv so this means it is the primary library. Right? So everything should be working like i want. Right? but i cant find my purchase i have made on apple tv on my itunes. Does it make a difference that i have purchased music videos on atv

So from what i understand about that article is that if my computer and atv are "synced", then the music from my apple tv should show up on my itunes. but it doesn't.

And indeed it shouldn't, there is no way of copying content from the tv to itunes, in any case from what I understand the music on the tv was someone else's to begin with, maybe I'm wrong here but if not you shouldn't be trying to use that content anyway.

When I go to devices on itunes and click on my atv, it only gives me the summary tab and photo tab. Should it give me more?

Then you have a secondary library and can only stream content from itunes to the tv. In order to sync content you need a primary library, this would involve you unlinking any library listed at the top of settings/computers on the tv and linking your own itunes library when the old library name changes to 'connect to itunes'. This process will remove all the content previously on the tv in favour of the content from your own itunes library.

OR

You may have a primary library set to automatic sync, but again I'm a little confused about whether you have a your library as a primary library or that of the person who previously owned the tv. Perhaps you can clarify the position for me.

Then I may have misunderstood you and your problem may be that you need to set your options to a custom sync if you want see the tabs for music, movies etc and set your own sync options.

The other area of confusion is that copying purchases from the tv to itunes is called transferring not syncing (not your fault). Transfers should take place automatically when the sync process occurs, if not ctrl-click on the device in itunes and select transfer purchases.

I believe the movies and tv shows that are on the tv from the previous owner are likely purchases.

As I said before syncing and transferring are different processes, ordinarily when you transfer content back to itunes it gets deleted from the tv, (you can delete purchased content from the tv by clicking on the trash can at the side of it).

Linking a new library to the tv will erase all synced content but not purchased content, you can only delete this by transferring, using the trash can or doing a factory restore, you can't transfer previously purchased content because you are not its owner.

Ideally you should have performed a factory restore before you did anything else.

I can't be certain whether having someone else's content on the tv isn't causing you not to be able to transfer your own purchased content, generally purchased content should transfer automatically unless there are problems with the files or some type of communication problem between the tv and itunes.

How much a pain would it be to perform a factory restore now that you have synced some content and purchased other content, bearing in mind you'd lose your purchases and need to resync everything again.
