I just bought a Macbook Pro 15 " i5. Hate it like you wouldn't believe. Love the software, hate the hardware. Been a fanboy since 2002. Check out TUAW several times a day. I have a silver keys Macbook Pro that is my best friend - love it to bits. But this new guy cuts my wrists to pieces. With old silver keys I can lie on the sofa or on my bed and surf to my hearts content for hours on end.
Note that I didn't say type. There is nothing more irritating than Apple defenders saying that people like me who complain about the unibody's sharp edges are not typing correctly. I'm not typing!! I'm surfing! Nothing to do with ergonomics!
So, I have two choices. I can keep it, buy a Speck cover and hope that that will make it feel like old silver keys.
Or I can return it, give up the $200 fee, keep my old silver keys Macbook Pro until she dies along with my other iMacs, and buy a cheap Windows computer for surfing the web and checking email for my wife. I plan to buy another iMac once the line is refreshed but until Apple redesigns the unibody I'm not buying another Macbook.
Users first, design second please. I have several Macs that I'll keep using and love. The Macbook Pro I think I'll have to return. If I hate to use it for even two minutes then it fails the test. This shouldn't even be an issue. Bring back silver keys!
Do not - NOT - tell me that I'm not using it properly! It's a **** computer. It should be comfortable to use from the first minute!
