OS 3.0 Update

Hey Axel, just a point of clarification here:

Which generation is your iPod Touch? I believe the OS 3.0 is only available for iPod touch 2G and above. If your iPod touch is the 2G or above then you can update the OS through either iTunes or clicking on this link [ HERE | http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/software-update.html ].

3.0 works fine on all generations of iPod touch, including first gen. I believe 4.0 is the one that isn't going to work on the first gen touches.

Also (and don't quote me on this!), I believe that major updates to the iPod touch OS (eg: 2.x to 3.x) are $4.95, while the minor updates (3.0 to 3.1) are free. The 3.1 update shows as $4.95 simply because it's the current version.

Please note that this update is not free. I believe that going to 3.0 itself cost me $9.95 and it appears that his update to 3.1 is another $4.95.

Prior to doing anything, please ensure that you have the most current version of iTunes and that today is version 9.1.1 (12). Of course, then check the version of your iPod Touch as well. You can identify your model by clicking [ HERE|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353].

The only way that I know to go back to the way things were is to restore the iPod to the original factory settings (They way it came when you bought it) and then reload the items (Music, Videos and apps etc) as you want them from your backup in iTunes.

I heard restoring your iPod won't take the latest OS off. But if you are restoring to factory settings it should right?

I have an old back up from the mobile app folder I saved. Could I delete the one in the app data folder and replace with an old one?

When you restore it, it will go back to the factory settings as they were when you first bought the iPod including the OS that was installed then.

Good question on the mobile app folder content. It should work however I am not 100% certain. Be careful and do your research before you do that.

This shouldn't affect iTunes right?

I already have a back up of the mobile sync file I kept before upgrading to the OS 3. I can't find anywhere, where I could use that file to restore from back up instead if the one iTunes automatically makes from when I plugged in last night

Ok, so I have been searching through the forums and found that this thread can be good to reply to. Instead of creating a new one.

I have a iPod Touch. It has been sitting in my docking station for aaages, ever since I got the iPhone. Now, I want to update it to 3.1.

But, I am not able to locate this update anywhere... 😟 I have 2.2.1 installed now, updated iTunes. And when I look for new updates on the Summary, it tells me that I have the latest update.. I don't get this fancy window that asks me if I want to update either. (In iTunes)

No. However, you may be limited by the versions. For ex. certain Apps won't run etc. The basic functions of the iPod Touch will/should always work.

Ok thanks. My new update on my sec gen iPod touch is giving me hassle and I want to take the update off and go back to the way it was. How would I go about this? Please help. Thanks

i restored my ipod. it erased everything but is still 3.1.3 OS
