Jan 11, 2012 8:29 PM in response to bmacgregby Zyphir2112,Hi all,
new to the community, and this may need to go into the "keyboard" section but....this discribes my dilemma exactly as I am typing this post now on a back-up usb keyboard. My magic keyboard just went nuts! Jmmping everywhere, turning everything off and on. The bluetooth connection is good., and have double checked the keyboard preferences in systems preferences.
I have a iMac running Lion, updates are cool. Anyone else or any fixes?
Thanks Much.

Mar 14, 2012 9:10 AM in response to Apollo77by MHsiegelgale,***TO CONFIRM THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH UNOFFICIAL PARTS***
I use a Macbook pro + Magic Mouse + Apple mini dvi to dvi converter to a Mac 20" Cinema Screen AND still have the problemThis is infuriating as it delays my workflow.
***TEMPORARY FIX*** I have started to use a wired internet connection and turned my wifi off and this works with the macbook in clamshell mode & using both screens together **TEMPORARY FIX***
However this is not good enough we need a proper fix for this as we cant rely on everyone turning off their wireless thats just not practical.
Good luck with this. This fix has worked for what I need, its not ideal but what can you do. -
Apr 30, 2012 8:28 AM in response to Apollo77by 小罗,I had this same problem, and it turned out to be a very small, hard to see (almost invisible) hair stuck near the LED tracking bit on the bottom of the mouse. I blew on the LED for quite a while, and now it works fine.

Jun 9, 2012 3:43 AM in response to MHsiegelgaleby Aasmund Fretland,I also have an "apple only" setup, with 2,16 c2d MacBook Pro and 20" cinema display connected by DVI, bluetooth magic mouse and wired apple keyboard.
The jumping of the mouse (both macbook trackpad and magic mouse) started some weeks ago - possible after installing VMware fusion - i'm not sure. Anyhow, after reading this post I tried disconnecting the DVI and reconnecting it, and the problem immediately disappeared when pulling the DVI plug. It didn't return when reconnecting.
So I'm happy for now, but undoubtedly it will return. My setup is fairly old (2006) and the problem just appeared. Running Lion 10.7.4.

Jul 23, 2012 11:48 AM in response to Apollo77by mrrena,Glad to know I'm not alone. Lost online posts and everythign else as a result of the "Magic Mouse." I got my iMac right around Christmas 2011, and it's had this problem for as long as I can remember.
Sometimes I'm not even touching the mouse when it goes crazy: it's usually a case that it will "rewind" my browsing history so I've several pages back or else am scrolling at photos and suddenly who knows where I am? A bunch of pictures go flipping past of their own accord.
I have not yet tried using a third-party mouse, but may try that soon, as losing work is getting old. Most of the time, my changes are already saved, but still, a software developer shouldn't have to put up with such nonsense, especially from Apple!
Praying that the mouse doesn't go crazy while I post.

Nov 6, 2012 9:20 AM in response to Apollo77by thesunmachine,Mac Pro 2006 upgraded with GPU, Apple ATI Radeon HD 5770, and 2 Samsung LCD screens (one via DVI the other Mini Display Port. With a Trackpad, Magic Mouse and Keyboard all connected by Bluetooth the jumping made the Mac Pro almost unusable. Bizzarely, wrapping a foil around the DVI and MDP connections at the back of the Mac Pro sorted the issue. The suggestion really does work.

Jan 12, 2013 6:47 AM in response to Apollo77by crucius,I'm also having the same problem, wifi on, Magic Mouse, apple MDP to VGA adapter, external SAMSUNG display, clamshell mode. I haven't tried the tinfoil fix, but c'mon so many people complaining and Apple doesn't give a ****. It's incredibly frustrating to do anything with my Magic Mouse right now. Also i can't disconnect all USB connections (my keyboard is USB), nor my wifi connection. Really annoying.

Jan 12, 2013 7:03 AM in response to cruciusby crucius,EDIT: i just tried the tinfoil workaround... wierd enough, it works! Next time i will make sure to buy 3rd party adaptors, since they are rubish anyway.

Jan 19, 2013 4:08 PM in response to Apollo77by Badwolf2013,The magic mouse is rubbish. Since I'm not married to this stupid wireless keyboard and mouse I simply went old school and got an USB Apple keyboard and mouse for my iMac. Problem solved! No more jittery, jumpy mouse.

Feb 17, 2013 10:27 AM in response to Apollo77by juliaq14,I was having the same issue with the Late 2012 Mac mini, wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad (and a 24" Samsung primary display). Not only was I subjected to erratic input from the keyboard and a jumpy cursor from the trackpad, but both devices would also disconnect and reconnect intermittently. I only use Apple rechargable batteries and have a fairly clean install of Mac OS 10.8.
I also suspect that the second display appears to be the issue here - not just the adapter. I have a 3rd-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI-adapter (3rd-party because Apple doesn't make them) and use that to connect it to my 55" TV but only rarely actually use it. Ever since I disconnected the adapter/second display, my wireless and trackpad appear to be working fine again. I then tested the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and connected that to my TV just to make sure, and the erratic behaviour returned. I guess I'm back to using AirPlay Mirroring for now, then...

Jul 10, 2013 2:03 AM in response to Apollo77by woodmeista,Hi all iMac newbie but relatively computer literate. I have a 27' 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. up until today the magic mouse has beeen fine but since switching on this morning it has a life of its own jumping and jerking around etc and is effectively unusable. I've refreshed PRAM and reset SMC, deleted and reinstalled mouse, changed batteries - all to no avail. Any help and/or pointers in the right direction if this is the wrong thread would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

Jul 18, 2013 8:21 AM in response to Apollo77by Watertower2100,Had same problem, disconnected all I could, restarted, to no avail.
Finally read this article Troubleshooting Jumpy Mouse Cursors which suggested cleaning the dust from the lens on the mouse and this seems to have cured the problem...

Aug 5, 2013 4:08 AM in response to Apollo77by Mad Bob,Just upgraded to a 27inch iMac from an old white Macbook, i always used a Sony tv as an external monitor for watching films with no issues. All my cables to the TV are channeled into the wall, and therefore I had to stick to the original VGA lead that's in the TV, so I swapped the Mini DVI to VGA adapter for a Mini DP to VGA in hope that I could continue watching films etc on the TV.
It seemed I was wrong, I have all the same things plugged into the iMac as I did on the Macbook, but every time I insert the MDP the Magic Mouse (which came with the iMac) jitters, I also have a Logitech MX (my main mouse) which also jitters, as soon as I remove the MDP, all is back to normal.
Gutted. will have to try the foil trick, but really? I pay £1500 for an iMac, and then have to add some tin foil to it in order to use a second screen, this needs a proper fix.

Sep 8, 2013 2:57 PM in response to Aneusomyby Shaman Rawb,I read most of everyones posts, and I had most of the same issues, this worked for me:
I had the same issue. I bought an IOGear bluetooth dongle and used it with a USB extension base
Works FLAWLESSLY. Even during intense gaming when both the Keyboard and mouse would get so laggy it was impossible to play. It even works better than it did during normal use when I didnt have the display plugged in.
Amazing results.
Bluetooth Dongle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018O9JIG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&cr eative=390957&creativeASIN=B0018O9JIG&linkCode=as2&tag=sharaw-20
One thing to check, OSX directions sucked, so do this.
1. Leave your bluetooth on, with all devices still configured/connected
2. Option Click the bluetooth icon on your menu bar
3. Write down the 'Address' listed. This is the address of your internal Bluetooth
4. Plug in the Extension and then the Dongle.
5. Wait a couple seconds
6. Option click the bluetooth icon again
7. Make sure a different address is shown. If so, you are now transmitting/recieving from the dongle and not the macbook.
8. I plugged the extension into my Thunderbolt display and now I can just unplug my macbook and go. All peripherals will still work as it autoswitches back to the internal bluetooth once disconnected.
Hope this helps

Oct 30, 2013 5:41 PM in response to Gemini_74by jldesign,What fixed it for me was unplugging the USB... More specifically, I have a WACOM tablet and pen setup for graphic design. I unplugged that and no more mouse issue. My Apple keyboard is still hooked up through USB and everything is working fine. Not sure if it was interfering with the pen/pad but it's still an issue in Oct 2013.
Thanks for the USB tip!
