Itunes/Gateway/Windows 64 bit

Hello I come to you highly frustrated and extremely irritated. I am trying to fix my girlfriends gateway t series laptop. Little background first though. I have run into this issue a couple times before. In both cases it was windows 7 home premium and they were 64 bit. Here is what happens

1. Computer Will not shutdown. Either stops at logging off or shutting down
2. Computer seems unstable, things such as system restore, virus programs and just general usage is very unstable
3. Itunes will not open or update

The first computer I got this fixed on was a hp with a Intel dual core processor. I used revo uninstaller to completely wipe the system clean of Itunes. I then reinstalled it and everything seemed ok for a time. About a week later got a hold of the laptop and issues had seemed to begin to reoccur. If I removed iTunes everything gets fixed system is stable it shuts down and everything seems good. I need help really bad on this one. Itunes is the only thing I can see that causes the problem. Nothing I have done has seemed to stop it. Please help and thank you

What security software are you running on that PC, metzy? (antivirus/antispyware/firewall?)

Even if it isn't installed at the moment, has a Symantec security product like Norton *ever been* installed on the PC?

(Checking on this because all three symptoms you're describing can be related to an iTunes/security interaction, so I think we'd better try to get that off the table as quickly as possible.)

when I installed windows 7

Ahhh. You weren't using the "factory preload" Gateway OEM windows 7 when you did your Windows 7 install?

(Doublechecking that, because I know that those Gateway OEMs come with trial versions of security software installed, and if one of those didn't uninstall properly prior to putting in the AVG, the remaining componentry from that could be causing an interaction.)

I will just update evetrything that is going on

1. Avg removed with Revo Unistaller
2. Avg remover Freezes upon what looks like completion
3. If I try to open iTunes it looks like it opens taskmanager shows it's running but nothing happens
4. The computer Will NOT shutdown or restart correctly
5. Cannot uninstall iTunes with revo uninstaller or through programs and features
