After syncing new iPad, apps page greyed out in iTunes when syncing iPhone

After syncing my new iPad, Itunes now won't let me interact with the devices Apps tab when I sync my iPhone. Instead, the whole page is greyed out (the apps for my iPhone are displayed but the greyed-out iTunes display is unresponsive).

The Apple ID and account for both the iPad and iPhone are identical. The iTunes apps listed in the Library are all still there. And the apps are still accessible on the phone itself. But they can't be arranged, deleted, etc. from iTunes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this is how my iPad and iPhone are going to interact in future, the iPad goes back tomorrow.

With your phone connected, itunes running, purchase any "free" app in the app store, then sync that app to your phone. See if this fixes the issue. Before doing so, make sure that the account you're signed into in itunes exactly matches the account signed into on your phone: Settings>Store>View Account.

Thanks! That was the problem. I don't recall setting restrictions on for application installs but the iPad sync was probably just coincidence (and a very misleading red herring).

Much as I love the iPod/iPhone/iPad aesthetic, "this feature greyed out and we won't tell you why" is bad design and drives me mad.

Thanks again for the advice.

Hi and thanks for your help
I have the same problem as this discussion thread- my Apps page in itunes is greyed over.

Your helpful hint about restrictions also applies ot me. However when i go in to turn off restrictions i am asked for a password. I have never been in there to put 1 in so am puzzled .. and locked out. Any hints - THANK YOU SO MUCH

Well, putting in a restrictions passcode is not something you can do accidentally. You have to enter it twice. If you can't remember it, you will have to restore your phone as a new device in itunes(not from backup) & then sync your itunes content back to your phone. All saved data on your phone will be lost.
