SD card iPad camera connector does not work

I have a new iPad camera connector kit. I inserted the camera connector and nothing happened. The instructions state that the photo app should open upon insertion of the SD card reader. With the reader inserted I inserted a Sandisk 16 GB SDHC card which is supposed to be compatible. When I put the SD card in the iPad gives me a USB Device not supported message.

I am not an expert on this, but I read in this forum that the sd card has to be formatted and have a directory similar to the camera data storage. Make sure your SD card was properly formatted.

Also, have you tried using the usb to camera part of the camera connection kit? does it work for you? Not that this affects the SD card part, but I am just curious.

I had problems first time I tried to plug in the SD reader - the problem had a simple solution.

My iPad was in a rubbery case which protects the back, and the dock opening in this case was just slightly less wide than the SD adapter which was thus NOT going fully into the dock connector. So I removed the case and re-plugged the SD reader - immediately "Photos" opened and thumbnails appeared on screen for all the pics. on the SD card.

You then select individual photos and touch "import", when the imported photos will be found under "Albums", in an album entitled "Last Import". Previous imports appear in "All Imported"

But it doesn't seem possible to edit the imported stuff - e.g. to transfer a photo to another album.

Zeran-

Format the card in your camera. There should be such an option somewhere in the camera's menu system, probably under tools.

If you are trying to format a USB thumb drive, an MS-DOS (FAT) format should work. Then you need to create the DCIM folder at the thumb drive's root level, and photos must have 8 character names plus suffix.

My wife has the 3rd gen Ipad and I wanted to upload photos taken over past few years. Bought the camera connector kit. Stuck a Sd card reader in my my mac book pro ( 2007 version) and copied images to it . Put SD card in camera connector kit and in to ipad...........NOTHING. Tried all the things like powere off etc etc etc.

Put SD card back in camera ...connected camera to Ipad via camera connector ...camera said...NO IMAGES....!

Put SD card back in macbook pro card reader and looked at it in Finder. Saw a folder called DCIM ...clicked it ....EMPTY ....but all photos were otherwise shown as saved to SD card.

So....highlighted all photos and dragged to DCIM folder

Put SD card back in camera connector kit and lo and behold all photos appeared on ipad.

It appears to be critical to save your photos to a DCIM folder first.

Am having the exact same problem with a new iPad 3rd gen and a new CCK. If all it takes is a subdir DCIM then why the blank didn't they put that in the directions and NOT waste all of our time? geez I almost threw the CCK out the window last night. And as a photographer, not all of my images are coming directly from a camera SD card "properly" tucked into a DCIM folder.

OK-I'm better now.

Thank you all for your enlightenment!
