Gmail "Message sent to trash conversation" error message.

I've been using Gmail without any problems. Suddenly, out of nowhere, whenever I send an email, I get an error message which reads: "You have sent a message to trashed conversation." Unless I drag the sent email out of trash into inbox, it doesn't appear in my "Sent" folder. Any ideas as to how to correct this problem?
