Where is the iPad backup made by iTunes stored on my Mac?

Where is the iPad backup made by iTunes stored on my Mac?

Truly sorry, i just cannot find the location. Read the manual, but cannot seem to find it?

if that file location is copied to an external hard drive, does that protect it? Meaning if my system fails, can I just copy that file/folder back to it's proper position and have my backup?

The iPad's backup does not include all data on the iPad. The backup does not include any iTunes content and photos transferred from your computer.

If your system fails, it is much more important to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup - the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.

If your system fails, with your iPad connected to iTunes and without syncing, control-click (with a Mac and right-click with Windows) on your iPad under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to manually create a new backup for your iPad.
