iPod Touch OS Upgrade

Hi,

I have an iPod touch 32GB with the original OS (v2.1 i suppose). Would it be possible to upgrade automatically to OS4.0 once it is available or I have to upgrade to 3.1 and then to 4.0?

Also, are there any issues with such OS's that would make my iPod act a bit funny??

Thanks

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You can get iOS4 for your iPod. The iOS 4 Software Update works with the second- and third-generation iPod touch. However, not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking, custom wallpaper, and Bluetooth keyboard support are available only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
