Awful Screeching Noise - Help

Hey, so I just bought Logic Pro 8 a bit ago to run on my Macbook Pro and whenever I set up an audio track and try to record something using my Macbook's in built microphone I get this awful white noise, static feedback type of thing, such that the only way I can record anything is to completely turn the output volume of my mac off (then I cannot here the metronome). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm very new to this program 🙂

Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Well, you've just dicovered the world's most annoying interaction between a microphone and a speaker, which happens everywhere where it comes to monitoring a microphone, and definitely not only in logic.... a feedback

Solution:

1st: Turn down the volume of your Mac as much as applicable to avoid the sound of the speakers getting back into the microphone and hence creating a feedback loop.

2nd: Use headphones instead. Headphones are a great way to monitor your voice while recording. They are such a great thing that every studio uses them when recording voices. You may start with your iPod headphones, but there are better ones out there...

3rd: Turn down the volume of the track you are recording to, so you just hear the other tracks, if you don't need monitoring.
