Scroll bar randomly missing from websites.

I just saw this again today.

Actually when visiting this website there was no scroll bar on the right hand side of the browser window. The text was cut off at the bottom and the only way to scroll was to highlight text and drag the cursor to the bottom of the screen. Quitting Safari and relaunching, restored the scroll bars.

I’d like to keep from having this happen as I have to re-login to all open tabs that require login. And it is generally a p i t a.

I have the same problem, and even though I haven't been able to stop it from happening periodically, I have a workaround that is a bit faster and less annoying than quitting Safari and relaunching every time.

I set my Safari preferences to open "same page" when I click on new tab. So far, this has always opened the site with the scroll bar available. Then I just close the tab without the scroll bar.

Best of all, any other open tabs and/or windows are unaffected.

Just another data point to say that I'm having this same issue. I did a fresh install of Safari 5 today, restarted, and just started seeing this on a page I am developing.

The above "same page" workaround works for me, but this seems to be a long-standing bug (I've found references to it and older versions of Safari).

Hopefully this will be patched soon. I have submitted a bug report to Apple as well.

Also, this seems to happen in things that use Safari (WebKit) for web views, like the Dictionary.app. I also have issues with Dictionary not correctly displaying the vertical scrollbar after updating Safari.

example: (note that resizing the window DOES sometimes display a scrollbar, but not allowing full scrolling of the view)

I am having this happen all the time. I think more in Safari 5 than in Safari 4. Never before version 4. I find I have to shut down safari and restart. That is a pain in the neck. I am trying to do my work and debate about using Firefox more due to this. The problem is that Firefox is slower and when I am working, time is important.

I have been looking at the discussion for a while hoping to see someone help solve the problem. I have cleaned out my cache. I have shut down the computer. I have done all of the troubleshooting possible. It is not our problem but a problem that should be addressed by Apple and not a workaround--- we need it fixed.

I switched to Safari yesterday because FireFox was giving me problems.
I got my bookmarks transferred, everything working well and then this problem begins happening.
I tried the same page idea and it seams to work but this issue should be addressed by Apple as it has been around for quite some time as I have learned.
The pages I have the problem with so far are

Wells Fargo account access
Craigslist
