Deleting messages (hotmail)

Hi,

I'm now using my mail a lot more on the iPad then I ever did for the iPhone.
For both the iPhone and iPad I use my hotmail account.
When I delete messages on iPhone or iPad they are not deleted on the actually hotmail account and are still unread when I log onto my hotmail account using a PC.

Is there a way I get the mail on iPhone/iPad to delete messages permanently so that I don't have to re-delete when I'm on hotmail on the PC?

Under Settings, Mail, Accounts, Advanced, there is a setting called Delete mail from server. The options are Never, Seven Days and When removed from Inbox.

If you select When removed from inbox, it'll delete it from the server when you delete it from the ipad.

That doesn't work - atleast for me. I read in some of the forums that the POP3 protocol doesn't provide for a communication back from the email client to the server. Hence even if you delete the message from your iPad, it doesn't delete it from the server.

I used it for a while and it worked on my POP email account with Comcast.

I turned it back to never because I didn't want to retain the emails on my ipad until I could read them on the laptop. Mostly for attachments.

I have same issue. It is very inconvenient to go to hotmail mobile client to delete emails.

I am also having the same issue with my Hotmail account. Is it really because it's a POP3 server? If that's the case, it sounds like it can't be fixed until and unless Apple comes up with a fix for the iPad mail application to work with different types of mail servers.

It's extremely annoying!

Same problem here. When I open messages from Hotmail on MAIL they are not deleted from the actual Hotmail server

Mail works with POP3 servers, sounds like most of you are specifically having a problem with the Hotmail POP3 server. Have you contacted Microsoft or checked on their website?

This solution worked. Now I can delete my hotmail on iPhone and this action deletes the email on hotmail server - just what I wanted

I am having the same problem but when i delete from the ipad2 email is not delted from my verizon account. in the ipad settings advanced settings delted messages is set to 'after one day' but emails are not deleted from the verizon server. any ideas?
